My 90 LX 5.0, likes to grind occassionally when going into reverse, it seems like something is still spinning when I try to go into reverse when it grinds. If I wait a few seconds or "double-clutch it" it seems to go into reverse without a problem. Forward gears I have no concerns.

Is my clutch cable stretched out and not completely pulling the release lever enough to allow the trans to stop spinning for reverse? Is this normal with the T-5?

Any ideas are appreciated. Had the Mustang for a year now and was told it was recently gone through and "rebuilt" no info on what was done though. No indications of real abuse by the original owner, car has 150K but is very tight.

Thanks.

No synchros in reverse. Do what was recommended above and you shouldn't have any problems. Putting in forth before reverse will become second nature.:)

yea it's second nature for me. I used to have an Escort(first car), and it had the same problem, had to put in fourth then reverse. I've been doing the 4th then reverse thing since I was 16, you'll get used to it.

ok, I am going to tell you the same thing I told the last guy to do (about two weeks ago)

Before throwing it in reverse, put it in 1st gear and then throw it in reverse.

Hope that helps. It worked for me.
