we put my 18 inch gt wheels on my sons v6 and it looks like the wheel is to close to the caliper-it does not scrape but seems real close - thought i read about a spacer somewhere but cant find any info-is there a spacer and do they need to be put on the back too?

What year GT wheels did you put on?

You can purchase wheel spacers which will push out the wheels somewhat. I personally dislike the use of spacers. If you need a wheel spacer to make a wheel fit, then the wheel does not correctly fit the car IMHO and should not be used. A lot of people will disagree.

Just make sure it's a quality brand wheel spacer. Maximum motorsports sells several.

Of course, pics would help to determine if the rim is truely too close. If it's hot hitting now, more than likely it's fine. You only need a few MM. How close is it?
