Does anyone know the purpose for the "switch" that is located inline with the gear shift locking mechanism on the airbag equipped automatic mustangs (90-92 version)? I obtained a tilt column from an 88 mustang in hopes of swapping it into my 91, but the 88 column has no provision for the gearshift lockout mechanism. can I just leave the plug for the switch hanging, or is it a crucial piece of the column? I'd realy like to be able to use a tilt column! Thanks!!

I need help with this problem, please !!!!! The part I'm talking about is activated by turning the ignition switch, and is the cable that runs along the top of the steering column down to the automatic shift mechanism. It has an electrical connection on it and I need to know what the electric switch actually does????
