So I’ve got one of these big dogs porting intakes here…

A kind gentlemen - who is not big dogs, or affiliated with them sent me a big dogs cobra intake that has been ported. I’ll be replacing the box r intake on the car temporarily to see the difference.

I won’t get into the pissing contest, really here as a third party to make a comparison. Here are some pics of it compared to a factory explorer intake. All measurements are in mm.

This will be a strict a to b comparison deal. I’ll look at fuel flow and dragy times to see which one works the best. Engine is a woody built 347 with a f1r blower. Any ideas on which will come out on top?

If anyone wants any other pics or measurements, please Let me know and I’ll oblige if I can.

It’ll be interesting to see how the lower matches up to your heads.

Measure how long the ports are on the upper. Inches please. Lol
What “stage” port work did the owner pay for?

This is the first time I have heard of anyone paying someone to put a reverse taper in an intake manifold.

Sounds like no reverse taper and shortened runner length. That should make it more interesting.

I’ve seen pictures of a stock appearing Vic Jr carb intake that went back and forth between Billy Glidden and Wilson manifolds a few times. Next to my stock Vic Jr the difference was absurd. You can do about anything you want with enough properly executed weld and time.
2.3155 in² < 2.583 in²

Math does not lie....

Doh. I guess I should have paid attention to the measurements. I really didn’t pay them any mind since they were in Canadian and upside down. Plus, I don’t do the long runner EFI intakes.
What did the spacer look like that went on it?
No spacer and dominator carburetor.

Some flow bench testing would be interesting to see if they coincide with what Big dogs says they flow.
At what actual depression?

I would like to see anyone with any merit explain to me how reverse taper isn’t crap in an intake manifold. Give it boost baby. According to some, class racing has no innovation. And here we are with a cut and welded reverse taper manifold. Only logical conclusion for me is price.
What would be interesting is a 330 cfm TFS R box with no reverse taper against the stage 3 plus 330 cfm Cobra. That would be educational for many here.

A cfm number means little in itself. Just ask Joe’s Porting on speed talk about his 450+ cfm first gen small block Chevy heads. Flow bench loved them. Engine did not.

Fyi, whoever quoted me is on ignore mode so I can't see anything they said nor am I interested in anything they said!
But you sure liked running your mouth about them. 😆

I really don’t care how this manifold test goes. I haven’t used either of you. I do know reverse taper in an intake port has been proven wrong many times over. That is NOT innovation. That is a compromise.

@tmoss

I find this one very interesting I have had a few people tell me it's a waist of my time to even test the TFR long runner that I have. They say it sucks. Crazy thing is it has the same lower as the TFR box. This is a prime example of why I like the GT40 intake many many times with a little work they out perform the aftermarket intakes. All but the box that is.

Why did that guy even try to put that intake on an engine in a truck that makes peak horsepower under 5000 RPM? What was the logic behind that?
What do you know about the truck? Don't assume......I'll see if I can find it again......
OK. Good to know. I saw the power numbers along with a 4,900 rpm hp peak in a truck and figured stroker to do heavy lifting truck things.
Can you tell us what your Box R intake flows for all the flow bench racers?
Losing customers. Hahaha. That’s hilarious! Loved laughing at people who would throw you’ll lose clients at me. They weren’t worth the hassle in my experience.

96, do you have a draggy to test with?
Just to think how many times that intake was posted with pictures and those numbers while being claimed to be Moss’s work. Of course you were going to get some window licking clients coming your way after that complete lie. I’d be mad too! The morons that think they know this story from the beginning, and think it is all one-sided are VERY mistaken. I took a significant amount of time with Mr. Brooks in private messages, giving him the benefit of the doubt.
