Will it cause any physical or performance problems to run without the spout as long as I set the timing somewhere around 30-32? I read a previous post that said the eec advances the timing +16 with the spout in. I am sure it does a little more than this because I only get detonation at part throttle. I just finished a tank of gas with some slick 50 injector cleaner in it. It helped a little but I still have some detonation at part throttle. It only sounds like one cylinder and it is driving me crazy. So I am thinking the eec is advancing my timing to far at part throttle. I have tried it at 8 with the spout and it still happens. I guess it may be some kind of buildup in the combustion chamber? Will it cause any problems to keep using the cleaner in the gas tank or do you have to wait 3000 miles like it says? Thanks!!

Why?

The spout suppplys the rpm signal back to the EEC to use in varying the timing - who knows what happens without this input, but you are bound to get detonation somewhere in the rpm versus load spectrum without it. Why run without the spout?

I figured running without a spout would eliminate having to much timing in the low rpm range where the detonation is happening. The computer is obviously bumping the timing to much around 2000 rpm.

OK

So your getting detonation with the spout in the circuit. Have you checked any other componants like EGR valve-actuator-EEC position sensor, ACT (air temp), ECT (eng temp), TPS (throttle position), etc.? These sensors also play into where the EEC decides to set timing.

You should not detonate with the spout in unless there is a problem somewhere else.

Just wondering if anyone has any ET or mph gains at the track with the spout out and going off total timing?? I have heard this is one of those little tricks at the track to make your car go faster. Anyone know anything about this????
