The other day sitting in rolling traffic with the air on max my car temp went up to about 230-240. When I'm moving the temp stays around 180-195. I have a Pep Boys 3-core rad and a 180 tthemostat and the fan clutch is only 2 years and the cap I just replace 3 months ago. I have heard the if you use a 70/30 water to coolant in the radiator it will make the car run cooler. That makes no sense to me since antifreeze keeps the boiling point down. :idunno:

Your answer is in your signature, underdrive pulleys. You have no water or air flow at idle.

In most cases an electric fan will help the situation because air flow across the radiator will no longer be dictated by engine speed. Instead, the speed is constant. Coolant ciculation will still be crap, but at least what is dripping by will be cooled.

If you or anyone has never pulled the radiator cap and watched the coolant flow at idle with an under drive pulley you should, it's pretty funny, and pathetic!

Changing the coolant mixture will do nothing for you.
