Does the pilot bearing need to be removed for a manual trans to auto trans conversion? Or can I just leave it in there?

yeah you need to pull it out, because the nose of the converter goes in where the bearing goes.

Mine was a PITA. If you get the tool from autozone make sure the forks are "sharp" so that they can grip the indentations.

Ive heard but never done this one. I guess if you pack that bushing with grease and find a punch or something that fits snug in the bearing you can hit the grease and the grease will have nowhere to go but push the bearing out. i would imagine it makes a mess also....lol

OK it will come out then. I tried the grease method a while ago, it actually worked. Not too messy. I used a 6" long 1/2" extension as the "plunger".
