I just bought a 1984 Mustang coupe and I have a question about the steering. When I drive the car the steering is very loose and the steering wheel moves in different directions than what I'm driving. could it be the alignment or the power steering pump?
I had the same problem in my 86. Check the mounting bolts on the wheel itself. If you pull off the steering column, there are two little allen head bolts that probably need to be tightened. Also check the nut under the horn cap. My steering issues were not the ps pump, but the rack itself. I had a lot of "dead-space" at on-center. A new rack fixed me right up!
