"Ole - Red" and a FordStrokers 427 Dart Build.

well here we Go !!!!!!! I'm finally going to start a new build thread....

a little back drop on "ole Red" , I did a "TFS HCI" build thread a couple years ago, other than swapping a couple engines and transmissions that's about the most I've done.

a couple pics, it actually looked pretty good when I was done with it.

it really only lasted about 3,000 miles , I never got the tune right and it started losing oil pressure, so I decided I was going to get a good engine somewhere??

and decided to start tearing it down about 2.5 yrs ago, about middle/latter part of 2012.

I can't see the pictures for some reason everytime I click o n them they open and just minimize. But the O/F tank looks ok. Man wish I had a garage to work on mine. Looking like your getting some things done!
sradtodrag , yes as I was researching the reverse lockout I found a few ways to do it, one was to swap the spring for a light weight one, or cut some off.
two , to hook it to the brake lights
three to put in a switch, I figured the toggle switch was the safest way to go, I don't want to tear up this high dollar transmission , or mess with the brake lights at all.

did you try clicking on the pic after the little box opens , when I do it pops up the pic on a different page, really big .

yes :smile2: I'm finally getting a few things done, yesterday I got the Pro-M CEL finished up and taped up the harness and got it stuffed up in the kick panel,

and went and got fluids for the car, Ford has swapped over to Merc 5 , I got it for the T56 Magnum, MotorCraft Green antifreeze, 50/50 , and Woody said just a plain conventional 10-w30 motor oil, so I bought Federate conv 10-w30 for the first start up.

Woody said to change it about 100 miles in, and cut the filter, Yea Man it's getting closer, the computer should be here in about a week, hope to be near ready to fire this engine when it gets here .
Yeah I click on the picture, it goes to a bigger screen but went I try to move the picture it just comes back to this screen. I just saved rhw ibes i wanted to see to ny phone. Autozone sells Pennzoil Synchromesh, and Summit has it too as well as Royal Purple. Gonna get some RP for myself. I know what you mean about being excited, I just fired my little engine up a few weeks ago. I'll check for updayea, nice work..
Found this off the Tremec site:

Q: What type of fluid does TREMEC recommended?

A: For all TKO 5-speed models, TREMEC recommends GM Synchromesh (GM Par
t # 12345349). For all other aftermarket models we recommend Dexron III ATF.

yes that's the same I found on Tremecs site, I'm going to call them and ask about the Merc 5 Ford now uses , I'll report back.

try when you click on pic, that little box pops up if you try to adjust it , it just turns off, I don't like that.

But if you click on it , it will pop up in a new window, that's not bad, but I like it the old way better,

Thanks for you info
Ok I called D&D and Tremec for their opinion on which fluids to use in a brand new T56 Magnum 2.66 1st gear for my 88 Mustang.

D&D said to use Dex III.

Tremec said to use Mobile 1 Synthetic atf fluid.

I'm going to use the mobile 1 , start from the horse's mouth :smile2:
Ok, that Summit link Is for Dextron III.
made a little more progress on the interior this week.

got the reverse lockout switch mounted in the console.

got the Pro-M computer installed, most all the hatch trim.

and hooked up the battery for the first time, it had 13.something volts after sitting more than 3 years on a Battery tender, wow that's pretty good, I was wondering if it was going to be good still ?

I checked out the new power mirrors, the power windows, and the power locks, the drivers side lock isn't working right, I think the actuator jumped out the bracket or something, so I'll have to pull the door back apart to fix that.

I couldn't turn the ignition on, because the fuel line isn't tied into the rails, Quantum fuel just shipped out these pieces a couple days ago, should be here any day,

all in all the first battery install went well, no big problems, :)

and got the passenger seat in also.

I've got to figure out a pcv and my vacuum system ,

the Pro-M 4-hole Throttle body has 3 little vacuum ports on it,

would it be good to
1 - go to the fuel regulator
2 - go to the vacuum log on the fire wall.
3 go to the pcv in one of the valve covers,
and just a breather cap on the other valve cover??

will that take care of the vacuum and pcv systems ok to get started

That's pretty close to what I did. I used two throttle body ports for the fuel regulator, and PCV from one valve cover. The other V/C uses a filtered breather. I tapped the 1" carb spacer for an IAT sensor, and vacuum log because it was cleaner having those come off the back.

Jay
I tapped my Super Vic for the iat.

I just remembered my fuel vapor canister , and I've only got 3 ports on the 4 hole TB.

could I run one off the vacuum log maybe , or would that be like a big old vacuum leak ?

Don't you have an ECU controlled solenoid in the canister vacuum line?

Jay
Come to think of it , the pro m harness does have a connector for that
But my cannister doesn't , or I lost a piece of it
It's been over 3 years now it's been tore down

Cannister only has 2 vent line connections on it
The solenoid goes into the line between the canister and vacuum source. If you can't find the old one, I don't think it would cost much.

Jay
Ok I'll look into that.
I just found out today that my air cleaner is hitting the hood when I shut it , just as the safety catch is hooking in the front of the hood, about an inch or so left to go before it latches all the shut.
Jay what type base did you use on yours.
I used a 3/4" raised base to miss the linkage, but now I see that wont work.
when I set my filter assembly on a flat table, it measures 3- 1/2 " from the carb to the front top edge , that's where it's hitting the hood.
I bought an 11" K&N with the Xtreme top, and was trying to find a different top to use with this, but I have to buy a whole new one now.

I want to make sure I get it right this time. I've never set up a carb style intake before.
What headers are you running?
Kooks 2" to 3.5" collectors , I'll add a pics when I get to my desk top , the whole deal has about 1/4" clearance on both sides of the headers to the frame rails

I'm on the fence between some kooks 1 7/8 or 2 inch headers on my 427 with 240 cc high ports..Waiting for the pics..Also what is the pn for the kooks?
Kooks # 10242650 Stainless Steel 2" by 3.5" 79-93 Mustang with a 351 SBF 9.5 deck, with TFS HP 2 3/4" diagonal bolt pattern , replaces part# 5058-01-0808s
