My friend has a 347 with a few hundred miles on it, he told me that there is a popping sound coming from his oil pan.What could this be?

I'm gonna take a stab here I'm not Woody but does your friend have a Windage tray and has he changed his oil lately? look at it closely.. Tell him to put a strong magnet on his oil filter to see if there are any particles of metal collecting on it.. Possible if there is a windage tray that it could be pieces of that the crank might be hitting but that's probably a worse case scenario...
