I have a Bassani catted X and the thing just hangs way way way too low, it sags in the rear horribly and scrapes on bumps. I was thinking about keeping the Bassani (for inspections) then getting a cheapy offroad H or X, I don't want to go and buy new mufflers but are bullets and an offroad X or H going to be insanely loud????

I can speak for my '00 GT...

I think it will be really loud!

I'll chime in since you aren't getting much of a response. This may help since mine were also straight thru mufflers. I ran a BBK offroad h-pipe with Race Magnums and tailpipes. THAT was *insanely loud*! Now I run the stock cats with turn downs on the Race Magnums. The sound is perfect.

What about having your Bassani pipe "fitted" at a local muffler shop. They should be able to place a strategic bend or two to get it to fit where it should. Probably cost less than a bottom of the barrel offroad pipe.
