The aluminum is lighter and takes less power to spin. The difference in weight is only about 2lbs, but when you spin that to 6000RPMs it makes a big difference. Angular acceleration is a=V^2/r and F=m*a assume angular acceleration is the same for both the nitride pulley will put twice the force on the crank. That probably only translates to a few hp but every little bit helps.
