Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. The car is used mainly for auto-x in Prepared class so I need a cam with GOBS of low and mid torque as I will set my shiftlight to 6000.

302ci milled for 10:1 comp
165 afr heads
gt-40 intake
65mm tb
1.72 rockers
70mm maf
24 lb inj
1 5/8 mac shorties
t-5
3.27 rear
??????

Thanks,

Dave

You should set your shiftlight lower than 6000. With the 1.7 rockers, I used a Comp XE270HR-12 cam and it worked really well. I couldn't believe how much more torque I gained in the 2000-4000 rpm range over the old B303 I was running.

For autocross with your set up - I'd put 4.10 gears in the back and stick in a CompCams XE264. The AFR's should handle the lift with the 1.72's. If you build it to be REALLY strong in the 2000-4500 rpm range, you probably won't need the 6 grand shift point - more like 5500.

I thought about that too - actually the Cobra cam makes better torque low at the expense of few HP compared to the stock HO cam; but I think he'd get near stock torque out of the XE264 down low; and WAY better output in the 3000-5000 range.

Crower 15510 or the 15511. The First one is more for A.O.D.s but will work with a 5 speed as it's designed to do nothing more than make torque. The second one is aimed at the 5 speed crowd with a heavy car so it's a torque monster too, just don't let it's low lift numbers fool you into thinking it's crap. I've seen plenty of guys rave about how good this camshaft is. Both are listed on page 62 of the PDF catalog you can fin below

3.27 gears you need a small cam, I bet this cam makes a TON of torque w/your parts but don't expect it to make anything past 5500:

Thank you, thank you.

The Comp XE270 and Crane 2031 were on my list.

Also Comp XE266 and a Lunati 51014.

I am running 3.55 gears and the 3.27 gears are so I don't have to shift as often, and also for track use.

6000 rpm just because you just have to run it up there sometimes.

1.72 rockers because they are here and I don't want to spend more $ on the 1.6 (but I might).

Thanks again,

Dave
