I have a 1985 Lincoln Towncar 5.0 engine that i was building for my 92 LX and was curious how much HP it has stock. I was told that the lincoln engines should have more HP than the Mustangs of that year because it was meant to move around a bigger car. I looked online for awhile and netted a big zero. If anyone knows or can send me a link i would greatly appreciate it.

I would not think the Lincoln engine would have more than the 5.0 H.O. - but I don't know. If it's the HO 5.0 with the Holley 4-bbl, and the .444 cam, it was rated at 210 hp and about 270-275 ft/lbs of torque. (Don't know the rpms...) Great help that was... ?? Mark

Not sure if this helps but it IS a roller motor (roller cam, roller lifters) and its fuel injected with the same intake my 92 has.

85 was NOT EFI. At best it was CFI. So if it's fuel injected, it's at least an 86.

True. But in Ford speak, if it's Electronic Fuel Injection, and it's not Sequential, it's Central Fuel Injection!

That's Central Fuel Injection, aka CFI. It's not junk, but it has very little potential for modification. Ford put it on for emissions reasons.

I got my LTD to 175RWHP with CFI before I sold it.

FoxChassis - got a buddy here in town whose stock 85 run's consistent VERY low 14's on regular (stock sized) street tires. Sticky rubber on the back would put his in the 13's easily. As with most cars of that era, there were HUGE car to car variations in terms of output/quality/options/weight. If you got a good, light one, they could be that quick; although most fell into the time range you described.

I think in the original post he said the motor was out of a Lincoln Towncar. I believe the towncar cam with the sefi 5.0L, but I don't think it was an HO. While it sounds like it's a roller, I think it would take the E7 heads, HO camshaft, perhaps different exhaust manifolds, and the HO computer to deliver the kind of performance he's hoping for.

Clarification: In 85, there's CFI 5.0 and CFI 5.0 HO. The CFI 5.0 as appeared on Tbirds, Crown Vics, Town Cars, etc. made 140hp I believe. The CFI 5.0 HO as appeared on LTD LX, Lincoln Mk 8 LSC, Mustang made 165hp (or 175hp, according to some sources). The LTD LX made less hp because it still had the 84-style log manifolds, whereas the Mustang and LSC had tubular headers.

All '84 and '85 Mustangs with CFI had "EFI" on the air filter housing lid:

Yes, I know. It has two fuel injectors controlled by a computer, so by definition that makes it EFI, and Ford advertised that fact on the air cleaner lid.

But in Ford speak, EFI generally refers to SEFI. CFI is completely different.

BTW, air cleaner lids lose their clear coat with Castrol Super Clean! My old car...

No '85 GT did 13 anything STOCK. They were high 14s to low 15s at best off the showroom floor.
yep mine did not sure what was done to it when i bought it it looked all stock to me except for extra loud flowmaster exhaust.
this was back in the mid 90s back then their were a few people with b-cams and old gt-40heads i beat them to used to shift that thing till there was no more power left thats when i knew to shift gears keep in mind i was a teenager in high school still [email protected] time.
