They (rear spacers) would be only for looks. Adding width to the rear adds rear bite, which causes even more understeer or "push" than we already have. For handling, we don't need more rear bite, we need more front bite. It's the fronts that need to be made wider (for handling), not the rears. But it does look nice to fill up those rear wheel wells, even it that's the exact opposiite of what we should be doing (for handling).
I like the looks of my 18X8.5 front wheels, and 18X10 rears which gives it that wide rear look, but it didn't help with handling at all.
