Hello, not going to be easy finding a newer newbie than me with a tuner.

Last August I bought a 95 Cobra with a Moates Quarterhorse that was tuned with BE.

Yesterday I bought a new Windows 10 laptop and downloaded the Moates software, the Tunerpro RT software and have been following the getting started setup information and I’m having problems with more yet to come I’m sure.

1st) One version getting started says “on right side under emulation, UNCHECK detect hardware at startup and another version says to CHECK hardware at startup. Tried both ways and neither remedied the problems I’m having.

2nd) downloaded the XDF and ADX files and they appear at the top of tunerpro rt until I close tunerpro and then I need to re-download them. NOTE there is no ADX file on the 94-95 CBAZA line so I have tried the 03-04 Marauder and 89-93 Mustangs..

3) copied BIN File from tunes sent by original owner and have never had to download again. Unlike the XDF and ADX files, the BIN file is always listed at top of Tunerpro when I restart the software.

4) when I connect cable from laptop to Moates I get Emulating, Hardware Quarterhorse, ready messages at the bottom

5) I can open the dashboard, but I’m’ Unable to get any of the gauges to work.

I have spent over 8 hours trying to get, what should be a simple thing done, but have been unsuccessful.

What is going wrong?

Thanks
Ken

I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place. I’m such a Newbie at this tuning stuff, I’m not even sure I got this right. If I’m in the wrong place, would you please move this thread to the correct location?
Thanks

are you trying to datalog?
Thank you for responding.

I believe that is what I am trying to do.
I apologize, the idea of efi tuning is so new to me. I am still trying to learn the meaning of all these new terms.

At this time, I do not want to make any changes to the 4 tunes that the car has.

I would like to get the dashboard working so I can see if my A/F ratio is correct. The car seems to be running rich.

After I get the dashboard working, then I would like to record (datalog?) what the car is doing while I drive.

Thanks again

Once you have your tune on tunerpro, you need to check mark the payload you want, then you must write the payload/tune to the chip

Then you can real time log, and if you select you can log to a file

You must ensure you configure the settings for your setup

Ie what what wb you are using

You dont need the wb to see the fueling

You can look at your 02 readings, fuell trim and commanded fuel

Thank you for help.

Is my Bin my “tune”? If so, I have the Bin loaded on TunerPro RT and it is the same Bin/tune that my Quarterhorse selector switch is turned to.

I will need to look for “payload” not sure where it is located.
“Write the payload/tune to chip” Does this mean that I will be rewriting the Bin that I have on TPRT to the chip in my car? At this time, they are both the same.

I don’t have a wideband at this time.

“Configure settings” to the best of my knowledge, everything is stock, other than air filter, tmoss ported lower, headers, off-road pipe (no cats) and flowmaster 2 1/2” exhaust. I will need to do some more poking around TPRRT.

Thanks again for your help.

I spent a few hours reading information I had found online and then spent another half hour or so in the car.

After being unable to find anything on Payload in the inch thick stack of material I had, I did some more searching online and stumbled across EFIDynoTuning.com and I found Payload and another stack of information I will be reading.

Looks like I will be reading for a while longer.

Thanks for the Payload tip

efi tuning is a good site

you should get the terms straight, as people use different ones that often mean the same thing

terms to know

strategy
tune
catch code
bin
calibration
definitions
templates
and many more

you need to know them, or you are in for a rough ride

anytime you change datalog payloads, you need to rewrite it

Certainly a whole lot to learn.
I never realized that it was going to take so much work, just to see what my car is doing.
Other than smelling rich, my car is running great. No bucking, jerking, stalling, hard starting, surging, just rich.

I really feel uncomfortable with the idea of needing to rewrite my tune just to see what the computer is seeing. It seems that once once I open that box, there is a great chance that it will take me weeks of work just to get back to where I am today.

I am so used to the, my car is running rich, I need to go down one jet size world. ?

I have a lot of reading to do.

Thanks for your help.

smelling exhaust or reading plugs on a n efi car is pretty useless

you look at commanded and actual fueling

that is what the sensors are for

I suggest you find a copy of the ford GUFB and read how the strategy is designed to work

for example the ecm drives the fuel rich and lean, it is not steady

and uses the 02 sensors as a feedback to see the driving of this fuel

in closed loop the ecm will command afr 13-16....... cycles

I am following the “Datalogging/Universal ADX for Fords” 10 step checklist written by Decipha on 1-31-2017.
At step 5, after holding Ctrl & F, I type in “Universal ADX” and find nothing, so I type in “Univ” and get 2 Patch choices. A)Error Enable Datalogging (UnivADX) Patch Code (locks out CL) and B) Disable Datalogging (Univ ADX)

I double clicked A) which opens up “Patches” on the left side column and 11 items below it and saved it.

So, now I am reading through “Payloads” which was also written by Decipha and updated 12-4-17 and I am comparing the list to the Parameter Tree on the left and while going through Scalers, Flags and Functions I see items that are similar, but not exactly what I see in the Payloads list.
Are these “Payloads” and if they are, how do I use them?

Thanks

Oh, by the way, I have and have read (over 10 years ago) Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control By Charles O Probst. Will this work for learning GUFB strategy?

information is incorrect, there is no such thing as selecting payloads in tunepro

tunerpro requires no user input, you simply install tunerpro and click log and its done, takes all of 10 seconds to log, its aimed for the newbie that doesn't know anything and doesn't need to

the reason why you cannot log is because you do not have the correct file, the reason why you do not have the correct file is because I never posted it

go to the efidynotuning forum to get it

Thanks to Decipha and his ADX file, I now have a working Dashboard and I also did my very first Datalogging on my first try. WOO HOO!

Now on an EFI Tuning knowledge scale of 0-1000, I believe that I am finally up to 0.05

Now I need to start digging around and find the definitions for all of the Payloads.

Results of my first Datalogging.
LAMBSE: idle-1.008, cruise-0.953, full throttle-0.813, deceleration-1.0

Thank you Indy2000 and Decipha for all of your help.
