First Post!
Hello,

Now that my son is old enough to start driving - he is interested in learning/turning wrenches and I am looking forward to getting back having some hotrod fun from my younger days (85 GT in my day).

We have a 92 F150 with 5.0 - we would like to convert from a speed density to a MAF ecu system in order to have more options for go-fast parts. I understand the A9P is the preferred product for an automatic vehicle. These are proving difficult to come by. After spending way too much time looking for a decent option, I ran across some options on eBay. These used units are pricy - but I don't know the condition. I also ran across some Ebay listings for rebuilt ECU's - does anyone have any experience with these? I did additional digging and it appears the same Ebay rebuilt ECU's are available thru Autozone as well - but color me skeptical. Blue Streak Remanufactured Engine Control Computer ECC1666

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with these? Any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help!

do you plan to tune yourself, or have it tuned by someone else?

this will dictate the path to take
Thank you for taking my question...

The answer is - I don't know yet. Since this is a truck - our expectations of big power and speed are low. We are looking for something fun - ideally in the 275-300hp range. It was my hope that this would be achievable without the need for much custom tuning. However, I readily aknowlege my lack there of...I am very open to suggestions on the best path forward.

We made a short list of bolt-ons we intend to try: A9P/Mass flow conversion, headers/exhaust, GT40 heads, a mild cam - would that get us close?

thanks again for the help...

you should be able to achieve that power at WOT without issue

i am asking not because of power, that is easy

do you actually care if it

idles

stalls all the time

hard starts......drives like ass and is no fun?

that is what the tuning is for

ah...I see your point....I would prefer to avoid any ass-like driving experiences! So this means it will require some tuning- yes? I would be willing to learn and try doing it ourselves - I suppose, but I don't know enough about it to know if that is a wise decision or not. Priority 1 is for it to run right - whatever needs to be done, I will do.

i suggest you look into tuning before committing, you any not like it

go to efi tuning, and start reading for a straight week.
