When installing a main girdle that has the spacers, would it be ok to machine the main caps flat and eliminate the spacer? This would only be about 1/8 in. and would allow the girdle to lay flat on the caps eliminating the need for spacers and give added oil pump clearance. Would i have any other problems with clearing rods and crank in this 331 combo? Comments please...
Thanks, Grober

I wouldn't recommend grinding the main caps. I would think that would reduce some of it's strength. What kind of block are you using? Stock? Also what type of girdle?
If you choose the right parts you can easily have well over 500 hp at the wheels. I run a 331 with an S-Trim pushing 10#'s of boost and I'm close to 540. I made the below #'s with a blown head gasket. If using the stock block, you are asking for problems quick.

Thanks David, Its all going in a 75 mexican block. I decided to take minimal off the cap to clear girdle and run the spacers. Since the mex caps are beefier i decided also to not weaken them.
