Has Ford issued any bulletin on oil pumps to cover a 1992 Ranger 2.3?
I just bought this truck. The guy told me that it had no oil pressure. When I start it it has no pressure and then all of a sudden it does. I know it can be the gauge but the sound of the engine changes betwen no pressure and pressure. Any additional comments would be helpful. Can an oil pump be intermittent? Do I have to pull the engine to replace it?
I found this comment on another site:
Engine knock: Some 2.3L engines (especially - ones) have knocking on the lower left side of engine. The cause is oil pressure problems. The solution is a revised oil pump and a gallery plug with a pressure-damping rod.
I called the Ford dealer. he has no idea as to what this means. Can anyone help?

We pulled the engine. The strainer and oil pick up tube was completely blocked with gasket material. We put in a new oil pump, pickup tube and strainer. Everything is running fine.

That's what I was gonna tell you was wrong (my car had the same problem) but I see you got it figured out.
