At the bill sponsor's request, we need YOU to attend (if possible) and testify in support of this important bill!

SEMA SAN - SEMA ACTION NETWORK

SEMA model legislation to create a vehicle titling and registration classification for street rods and custom vehicles has been introduced in the Washington State Legislature by Senator Mike Carrell ([email protected]). The bill (S.B. 5585) defines a street rod as an altered vehicle manufactured before 1949 and a custom as an altered vehicle at least 25 years old and manufactured after 1948. Under the bill, kit cars and replica vehicles will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Washington State Senate Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Support for S.B. 5585

For those interested in attending the hearing to voice support, the Committee will meet on Wed., Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m.at the following address:

Senate Hearing Room 1
J.A. Cherberg Building
304 15th Avenue SW
Olympia, WA 98504

S.B. 5585 provides specific registration and titling classes for street rods and customs, including kits and replicas.

S.B. 5585 allows for the use of non-original materials and creates a titling criterion that assigns these vehicles the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

S.B. 5585 exempts street rods and customs from a range of standard equipment requirements (only that equipment required in the model year that the vehicle resembles) and emissions inspections.

S.B. 5585 provides that vehicles titled and registered as street rods and custom vehicles may only be used for occasional transportation, exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, etc. and not for general daily transportation.

S.B. 5585 permits the use of blue dot taillights.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Senate Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to urge their support for S.B. 5585.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at [email protected]. Thank you for your assistance.

Dude - How about a little more notice so people, if any, that are in the area can attend? I doubt there are any people here that can drop their hamburger at 1230 in the afternoon and make it in time to provide testimony. Also, have you ever considered getting your own board here to keep all these threads in one place so people can scan through them all easily? I'm sure AutoForums would be glad to get you your own space.

Great point. Please contact AF_Don to discuss this idea of having a SAN forum or other dedicated area to accumulate announcements.

its kool and a free bump so they don't miss it. im actually suprised an organization doesn't have to register and pay dues on a site not owned by them to post their messages regularly.

My understanding is AF has worked with SAN before and welcomes the announcement of actions they take on behalf of automotive enthusiasts on their sites.

thats too bad it isn't more organized into one board so they can be scanned easily for someone who wants to know what is going on everywhere. in that lounge that is almost impossible with them getting mixed in with the jeep and prius threads that move really fast and bury this back quickly. nice neat and organized was just a pipe dream. and for those that don't want to see them and come to the louge to kick their heels up, bam! oh yeah, this is another unauthorized bump.

Thanks for the suggestion, guys. But we'd rather be out there, in the open, for all reading the lounge to see. We don't want to put it in a section labeled, "politics" and get ignored by those not really generally interested in governmental issues.

What about those who read the lounge and don't want to be bothered by political bulletins?

not sure that was meant as a "suggestion."

We understand you want to be out there, in the open. But what about what the members of the forum you joined want and don't want to read. Remember your the new guy here and just assumed we wanted to get all these notifications. Most are here in the lounge to BS, your here for one reason and it's not to BS.

When half of the front page is SAN threads it's not much of a lounge anymore.
