I ran 245/50-16 Nitto DR's on my 16x7's with absolutely no problem, and since they run a little narrow, I wouldn't be surprised if people successfully ran 275/40 DR's on 17x8's, but I'm suspicious of running 275 RII's on them. I would love to, though.
The side wall height makes a big difference. The bigger rim/shorter sidewall combinations have a lot less distance to make up the difference in width, so they are less tolerant of mismatched sizes. You can get away with a little more on a 17" than an 18" rim.
I have a friend in New York who tried the RII 17x8 combo. He said it worked good, but I haven't been able to look at in person because I'm down in Florida.
I have run 275/40/17 DOT race tires on 8" wide wheels before.
It is not a perfect fit by any means, but it works. It allows for a good bit of sidewall roll over, and the car might feel a little more squirmy then if they were mounted on a 9+" wheel.
The RII's tends to run a little wide too, so this might make the situation a little worse. If you can get a set dirt cheap, then do it; if not spend a little more and either get a set or 17x9's (which are still a little thin for 275's), or get some 245-255 rubber for the 8" wide wheels. If you are interested in a set of Toyo RA1's, shoot me an email and I'll see what kind of pricing I can get for you.
I am replacing all four calipers on my 2003 GT. Looking for a better way to bleed brakes as I do not always have a second person around to help with the bleeding process. Please let me know which bleeder type works best for you and what brand. Thanks!
I did my first auto x 2 Saturdays ago. My car is supposed to have 245 tires all the way around, but I have 275's on the rear. The factory pressure for the 245 tires is 30 psi. I ran 32 psi. I have some wear along the edges of the tread on all 4 tires. Should I be running my air in my tires?
03 / 04 Cobra Bumper
I am have a new Cobra bumper for my GT. I have new (to me) cooling adapters and brand new hose. Does anyone have pictures that they can share of how they routed their hose? I can do my own trial and error or do it right the first time from someone that as it...
Does anyone happen to have any information on the rear axle set up that the T1 Saleen mustang race cars had from 1994-1998. I'm curious if the rules made them run a stock style 4-link, or if they were allowed to use torque-arms, parallel 4-links or IRS.
I am very curious about this, because a...
