So the engine block plate isn't enough? I'll try and get pics asap.MYLITTLEHO said:Yeah post a picture if you can...
BTW when I switched to a mini starter I had to put washers between the starter and the bellhousing to keep it from grinding.. you might need to do the same..
I'm wondering if thats been my problem this entire time. My engine block plate is actually missing a chunk right where the starter meets up with the bell, but i found two washers that were the same width as the block plate, and used them. Maybe i need to double up the washers. About how much farther backed out does the starter need to be. All i can say is though, i'm the master when it comes to changing starters now, haha.MYLITTLEHO said:My OEM starter had the gear set farther back into the housing than any other starter i have seen... The stock replacement one I got would grind so I pulled it out and sure enough it was different than my original one.. The OEM one had the gear set farther back into the housing and the other one was up closer to the flywheel... no matter what starter I got.. I had to use washers to space it out or it would grind continously after it started...
OK, the starter is wired up 100% correctly, and i have two washers, equaling about an 1/8th of an inch on each bolt, between the bell and the starter face, and i can hear it grinding a tiny bit still. I'm about to give up. I got really pissed today too, cuz i thought i messed the brand new starter up, or killed my brand new battery, cuz i left the little red and blue ignition wire unhooked at the solenoid on the fenderwell. Yea, once i found out thats why it wouldn't turn over at all, i don't think i've ever thrown a socket that far before. Hope the snap on man gets here soon.MYLITTLEHO said:I used the stock block plate and just added 1/16" zinc washers worked like a charm
