How the heck did this break?

So, while I was replacing my radiator today,I was given the quite unpleasant surprise of seeing this very borked swaybar bracket after removing the battery tray:

The rear bolt was loose with the other long gone. I have no idea how long it's been like this!

I've got a set of Steeda billet aluminum brackets coming later this week.

Any idea what could have caused this? A bolt working loose and falling out? Too-long end links? Dumb luck?

Probably just slowly vibrated out. I've done some wild **** with my car, never broke that part.

look at it this way, you’ll handle and carve the corners a little better after fixing it though! :D

Is it broke, or did you just lose the bolt? It’s hard for me to tell from the images, it just looks like the bracket came off and is hanging due to the missing bolt.

The bolts just vibrated out and possibly broke during the process. The sway bar sees a lot of stress. I have seen them rip off the lower controll arm. Almost every time I nut and bolt the car I find something needing attention. For the critical joints I stripe the fasteners with paint making it easy to see if something is moving.

I got the mounts out this evening after work. Honestly, the driver's side wasn't as bad as it looked initially. The passenger side was bent a bit, too. I'm guessing that's because it had to take up the driver's side load.

The Steeda brackets are very beefy!

I cleaned up the bushings/bars on both sides and got the new mounts in and properly torqued. A test drive showed a flatter car, unsurprisingly!
