HID retrofit into fox housings. Any new feedback?

6244 Views 82 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Nitrous SSC
My headlights are due for a changing. The driver side housing reflector that goes around the bulb has broken off and is bouncing around. It's done for. Was thinking about installing these into those housings. Any issues using the lens of my existing OEM style? They're not the clear aftermarket ones. I also like their texture as it will be the most stockish appearing.

Damn, the only clear ones I like are out of stock everywhere. Looks like I'll need to use these.

you want to eliminate all the reflective facets as well

the out of stock trend is part of the planned inflation due to the plandemic

I have found pricing of parts doubling in price in last few months

How do yours look? After driving home late from a track event last year I never realized how lucky I am to be alive with such ****ty factory headlights at 75mph. But I struggle because I don't want to change the look so far off it looks out of place. Yes, I'm getting old and to the point of liking things "stockish"

i didnt use hid, rather led

got them from headlight revolution, who said they actually test them

i already had clear lenses

light scatter yes.

The problem with LED bulbs and to an extent HID, is that the lenses are not designed specifically for HID or LED. Then, the bulbs themselves are not the right depth, the LED diodes are on the sides rather than wraparound so in a stock lens the light isn't reflected the same way it would be with incandescents. With that said, they are 1,000,000 times better than even the best incancescent bulbs I could get locally and I tried them all. Only issue I had was that the connectors were junk and I had to modify them to properly connect to the vehicle harness, but it was easy and took maybe 10 seconds per connector. Check them before final installation.
you are referring to NON projectors, right?

Not looking to just do a bulb swap. I'll be doing an entire projector assembly to get the correct throw of light.
yes stock style lenses.

I didn't really want projectors, and would have been fine using incandescent bulbs. I don't drive it much and rarely at night. Didn't care for the look of any of the projectors I looked at. Dad has a set in his 93 GT I don't know what brand or anything, he bought it that way. I looks kind of ricey. We are going to clean up my old OE lenses and put them in his car, along with some new incandescent bulbs that I had laying around.

Pretty sure I have a spare set in storage I can send your way. I’ll look tonight, pm me if you don’t hear back by Saturday.

ya just need the lens cover, you can separate
Doing some further research on this, looks like the aftermarket now has retrofit units that stab through the hole where the original light would go and it locks into place, minimizing cutting/fab. Now I just need to figure out if I've got the 5" needed inside of the headlights I posted since I can't find any of the original style with totally clear lenses.
a projector?
a projector?
Yeah they’re pretty cool looking. Then lock on the back with a big nut.
link?

Semi old thread but any chance of getting that link now

They're all over ebay. You can get HID ones or LED ones. I scrapped the idea right now until I can get some scrapped headlights to measure some spots so I don't end up with a bunch of stuff I can't use. (Mainly socket to plastic clear front cover of the housing) They look promising though as very very easy install.
Conversion results are quite pleasantly good on mine. You’ll recognize the aftermarket one piece units from Fleabay of course.
