In the instructions it says to retap and clean all block holes otherwise you will get inaccurate torque readings.

Why would I get unacurate readings from the block holes being dirty?? I figure if all the studs are bottomed out that they will not have any effect on the studs when the nuts are tightened. after all the nut is moving on the stud,, not the stud into the block?

am I missing something here?

It does sound weird since you don't really torque the stud to the block anyways. I ran a tap down the holes in my block anyways because they were a little gooped up from the sealant I used to keep the lower bolts from seeping before. After I did that, the studs went in real easy so it was worth the extra 15 minutes to clean them out.
