The reason I ask is that my serpentine belt is running around the alternator, crank and just skimming the water pump pulley. The problem is that i can actually move the water pump pully with my bare hand. Although I'm currently not experiencing any cooloing problem, I feel that the pump probably isn't spinning at the same speed as the belt and I want to make sure my cooling is running at its fullest.

My question about the standard rotation pump is so that I can route the belt from the alternator over the water pump (instead of down the side of it) and around the crank pulley then back up to the alternator.

If anyone has another solution I would sure like to hear it or better yet see pics.

THANKS!!!

It will bolt up but the coolant passages are usually a different shape for standard vs. reverse rotation pumps and covers.

The only other option for belt routing is to go around the water pump pulley but that would make it spin the standard direction and not reverse as it is intended to do.

That is "normal"...... as soon as the tensioner gets some "torque" from the crankshaft spin, pressure increases and belt slip (unless something else is amiss) will not allow the WP pulley to slip. Besides..... as long as you don't "hear" the belt slipping........ why worry or make an unnecessary WP replacement?

The way mine is set up, I don't have a tentioner. Just alternator bracket which applies the tention. See pic: (sorry about bad pic, only one I have at moment)

This is how I want it to be:

Yeah, I would fix that.

Is there an easy way to add an idler pulley to make the belt wrap better?

Personally, I'd go to standard rotation just because it looks cleaner.

I think if you are running the pump off the back of the belt it is reversed and if off the grooved side it is the same direction as the motor. I think that is right.

Kind of hard to see but I run a 91 crown vic pump with a march alternator bracket and a 43 inch serp belt.
