Just driving around town normally yesterday I got a check engine light. My car didn't appear to have anything noticeably wrong so when I returned home I got the dtc code "5284 Oil Pressure Switch Failure" from the instrument panel.

Anyone know what this is? Is it serious? I do plan to take it to Ford soon to have it checked out (still have a warranty), but I would like to know more about it so I won't get the run-around from the ford techs.

If anyone here has received this code before, what was wrong and what needed to be replaced?

Thanks for your help.

Check out this link: http://www.actron.com/

You can do a DTC code lookup by clicking on the button on the upper right of the page. "5284" is not a complete DTC - not sure where you got that.

Good luck.
I got it from my instrument panel using the instructions from site... http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/dtcodes.htm

Thanks for thie link. I tried the code I got and it says "DTC must begin with B, C, P, or U. The only code that shows on the instrument panel was "dtc5284" .

Well I guess no one has received that code before. If not, does anyone know what it means to have an oil pressure switch failure?

RoadRunnergt that code is a false code it already set in the veh from the factory it does not mean athing its only there because the veh is not with an oil pressure switch it has a pressure sending unit to controll the oil pressure hope this helps.
