Currently my 351w makes around 400rwhp through an auto. Thinking about stroking it to a 408 or possibly larger. How much is there to gain from say going to a 427 from my current 351? Id like to gain 50-60hp and go a half second faster in the 1/4. I just havent been able to find anyone to give me a ballpark figure on what the gains actually are. My H/C/I is big enough to support the extra cubes.

450-500 rwhp are typical numbers for run of the mill builds. You also must consider the gains in other areas that are not talked about, such as better ring packages, lighter pistons. Also get away from the large, narrow rod bearing journals of stock 351w cranks as well.

^^Let me ask you this. What kind of power would you ballpark my combo if I stroked it to a 427 if thats what you recommend through a c4? Trying to get down in the low 10's on motor in my 2800lb car. Also considering going to dart block so I can spray it with a decent size shot. I'm affraid to do more than a 200shot max on the stock block. A friend of mine got a 347 from you recently and has been happy with it

tfs 170's ported to 188 flow 304cfm at .600
victor jr (might upgrade to super vic)
holley 750 will also change if needed

Okay so 408 then. I didnt realize that was as far as you could go on a stock block. Its a early 80's block I think. If I hit it with a 200 shot that will be around 600 to the tires through a c4. That seems like a lot of power and tq for those 2 bolt mains. I know a couple people running 650rwhp through a stick with blowers but they dont have the hit nitrous has.

Stock block will go 427" but the geometry isnt preferable with the 4.17" crank. 408 is all you need to go low 10's at 2800lbs. My bucket has gone [email protected] through a C4 without leaving on the brake..all I did was stab the gas from an idle. I have'nt made a single tweak to my jetting or timing at the track either.

I agree more head would probably be a good thing but these do flow with afr 205's. I would like to move to some TEA ported 205's or something if I had the funds but the stroker kit will probably cost close to $2000 for a good one, and that will eat the budget.

The crank is no longer available. 4.100 (418) is the longest, at the moment.

Op...all else being equal you'll get 1 hp per cubic inch. If you improve the heads, cam, and intake tract you'll get a lot more.

My old 408 with unported 170 tw a 250 ish .600 cam ran 10.20's 130 at 3150lb

It is more about having all matched parts than the biggest parts.

Never really found much more power going to a 205 head

FTI is how designed my combo

Thats what I'm looking for. FTI designed my cam and spring package though I havent installed it yet. It was going 11.50's with the off the shelf cam and wrong valve springs (was getting some float). The new goal was get into the 10's as it is with the new cam before stroking, and FTI knew that goal when he designed the cam. If I can squeeze it into the 10's as a 351 it should go a very low 10 with it as a 408 and thats the goal, or atleast it should based off what you guys told me.

I have an older set of JE slugs that are brand new in the box, with rings, made for a 408 build. Chebby .927 pin, 1.3 height, dished either -16 or 22 (I'm not going to the garage to find out, it's cold out), ready for nitrous, blower, or tubro. I know I paid a ton for them but am not going to use them and they have been taking up space on my shelf. $400 + $10 for shipping. And no, you aren't going to find a better deal on pistons. hahaha

And here is a good deal on the crank you want.

Eagle Small Block Ford 351W 4 000" Stroker 4340 Crankshaft New 435140006200 | eBay

Now you have 1200 left for rods, machining, and assembly.

See, your guys at the Corral hook it up! :king:

*Nevermind. They just sold. My bad. Had them on another site. Sorry. But the crank is still a good deal.
