My 2020 F150 Coyote runs 195-200 max on the highway in the summer and in town during the summer with the AC running all out is 205 max. I have the digital temps (coolant and trans) displayed on my dash with a Forscan change.

I’ve seen this graph posted in many places before, with little context as to how the test was ran.
Context is important no doubt. I run a high flow 180F thermostat but it only holds that in non summer conditions here in TN now with my 450hp motor. DCC controller just can’t make my PartsGeek $99 Contour fan hold temps under 200F when stuck in traffic and ambient is 90F and I am running ac.

My old SPAL dual $500 fan did years ago but that was also 100hp lower but it would take off vertically like a rocket when on the driveway and I hooked 12v to it. I’ll buy and test one again in a few months only sadly maybe when summer is over. Running out of dollars faster than days in the month currently. Thx FEDRES.

10-4. Ramble on further please about the 210F being factory desired. I’ve heard that before but have never seen documentation on it and fine it hard to convince myself on with the factory gauge in the Fox mustang with 180F in the middle of the temp range displayed.

Now in other cars YES I’d have to agree, a 1990s Camaro, a 2000’s Grand Cherokee and many more I am quite sure have 210F being smack dab in the middle temp spot on.

Its hard for me to visualize the engineers designing the gauge to be run at 5/8-3/4 toward max in our cars.

Ive heard many arguments that cars are more efficient warmer also.

Once mine gets over 210F I start searching for ways to get moving again and get more airflow thru the radiator fast.
Think about it. What temp T-stat did Ford put in Foxes and SN's?
If 200 plus degree coolant temps provide cleaner emissions; what does that say about the combustion process?
My comment about 210* is me referring to your previous reply about your car running at 210*. I'm not saying that our cars are designed to run at exactly 210*.
I also mentioned the temp at which the '94-'95 GT's low fan kicks on.
Does any of this point to Ford Engineers designing these cars to run at 180*?
The info is out there and just a key stroke away. I'm not an engineer by any means but I did stay at a Holiday Inn recently. :D

I wish Indy were here. He could give quite an education on this subject. I too thought my cars had to run the magic 180* or the world would end.

Playing devil's advocate here...
How old is that chart? 20, 30, 50 years old?
What grade oil? Conventional or synthetic?
What type of rings? Cast iron, plasma moly, conventional or Napier cut?
What thickness rings? 5/64 top ring or 1.5 mm?
Just sayin'....
Agreed. Without any real info on the test it’s just a bunch of useless numbers.

Something more modern:

It's very technical. If I had to extract anything from it, perhaps 80C (176F) - 100C (212F) is a reasonable trade-off for emissions & frictional losses, but others may read it and infer something else. YMMV.

Was the SPAL setup a prefab twin, or a homemade twin fan?
If prefab, do you recall the part number? And did it fit a Fox radiator well, or did you have to hack it up?

So just to expand further, we are arguing a 10-15 degree window in terms of coolant temps. So what’s the benefit of running an engine at the colder end of that range? Let’s say 190 degrees vs 205?

Assuming a cooling system robust enough to maintain temp confidently and eliminating the effects of heat soak, would there be a HP difference running an engine at 190 degrees vs running the same combo at 205 degrees?

It fit my Griffin Mustang designed radiator very well maybe an inch or so of the radiator at the bottom that was not covered by the fan housing. As I recall….

I just looked at specs and I think one of the newer Dodge Charger fans will fit for my 31x19 with 26x18 core. $135. I bet it’s better than the contour one designed to cool a 200hp car. Might go pick one up and see.

Hope it’s not a cheap china knockoff as my “high flow” Contour fan is. The SPAL waaaay outflows what I am running but I got what I paid for no doubt.

Definitely keep us posted.

That’d sure be nice at that crazy price. We’ll look forward to full data.

ambient temps outside
hp estimate of engine
voltage when running
ac on or not

lots of data needed for us in warm climates to better understand what it’s capable of.

My cheap Contour fan would be fine in more moderate temps up north of TN or with less hp waste heat made.

I've been reading about these as well. Lots of folks seem to be using these and the good thing is they are newer enough that you can pick up OEM fans vs a knockoff. USED OE fans are in the $100-150 range it seems. I think the range is 2009 to 2020 Challenger.

Could be well worth the try at those prices. Any leads on where to get OEM fan version? I want to know that I know that I know it’s a real and high performance fan Designed to cool that Dodge HP level.
