thanks for the history lesson. thats a lot of information you have and it is appreciated. i know e10 fuel makes your engine run a tad hotter but e85 makes it run much cooler. in the summer i try to stay above e70 here. i was thinking about going to my stock fan setup when the new engine goes in but I think I'll stick to the contour/cold case setup.

can you tell me more about your infinity fan controller? thay sounds really cool
pun intended
I'm a car nut; what can I say? Lol. It really matters where you live. Coming from back East; I remember driving cars without A/C as it was a luxury upgrade. I could never drive in AZ heat without A/C. I like electric fans. A quality unit plain works and works well. Folks need to keep in mind that clutch fans are always slipping and never run at 100%. A clutch fan is always spinning, even when not needed. Newer cars are programmed to shut the electric fan/fans off when the engine is at WOT.

there’s a thread on the Holley EFI tuningforum about it.

It’s an OEM fan controller that comes on many types of vehicles so they can be had cheaply. There’s actually a variety of PWM controllers that can be used. Not just that one.

The issue that prevents many from using them is that it is not standalone. It’s meant to work with a ECU that can generate a PwM signal. right off the bat that excludes a lot of folks from using them.

I’m running a healthy 347 with a 4R70W, full accessory car. I also live in Phoenix. I have to pull air through a big arse trans cooler, A/C condenser and 2 row radiator. I tested a few different electric fan setups to no avail, this was in 110F ambient temperatures. The Derale unit is the only one that actually worked. I’ve programmed my fans to shut off at speeds above 50mph and the two rubber flaps on this fan shroud allow plenty of air through at highway speed with the fanson or off.

Save yourself time and $, do it right the 1st time and buy the best fan setup from the start.

I know this subject has been discussed multiple times, but I'd like to get feedback on specific electric fan combos people are using to keep their rides cool. I live in San Antonio and my '93 just can't stay cool in 100 degree+ heat when I get caught at long stop lights, construction, etc. I have an aftermarket (stock dimensions) aluminum radiator and the stock fan setup, new fan clutch and stock pulleys on a freshly built 302. I've already upgraded to a 130 amp alternator, so my electrical system should be able to handle a healthy fan system. Whatever I use needs to be able to handle the summer heat with A/C going. I'd rather build a little overkill, than not have enough air movement. Thanks in advance!
I've had them all. The best system hands down is the Ron Davis. I have the entire kit and control it through the Holley. Keeps my hot headed Kenne Bell combo at 170 no matter the conditions.

I have this same setup in a dual pass. Works awesome.

Best fans are Spals.

The stock clutch fan is OEM for a reason. It's simple, cheap, and effective.

E-fans can be an upgrade. Or maybe not. I have them on mine. One car is as stock as it can be and the other is not. E-fan on the not stock one. Other one will remain a clutch fan. I don't have to worry about the controller failing or anything like that.

Consider the Spal Brushless fans. I purchased mine (dual 300watt fans) in 2013 and I have been using them with great results. I also live in AZ (Litchfield Park) and have no issues with a/c blasting cool air in 114 degree temps. Fan controls are built into the brushless motors. No need for relays or add on controllers.

SPAL is all Ron Davis uses. Great fans. I didn't know that about brushless fans. Very convenient.

I just took a spin in my car and got into some boost. It's currently 100 degrees. The warmest my engine got is 204* without A/C. This is with a 3" thick intercooler up front as well as the A/C condenser. I tried a different approach on this build. I'm running a stock replacement radiator and cooling fan. I'm also running a high flow T-stat and pump and coolant is straight water and a bottle of Water Wetter. Cap is 16lbs. Car can idle all day at around 200*. I also have the hood removed so cooling may get better or worse with the hood on.

Looks like a great setup! What is the part number that you are using? Looks like you are N/A, however, do you think there is enough clearance for a blower pulley?

It will run cooler without the hood for sure.
I did a bunch of reading on this topic and it seems more folks are inclined to believe the car should run cooler with the hood in place. The reasoning is that without the hood; there is turbulent air in the engine bay and the high and low pressure areas are defeated. I'll find out soon enough.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get a Contour Fan from Rock Auto (More Information for FOUR SEASONS 75282 (rockauto.com) ), the side deflectors from LMR, and this controller DC-0444 (Davies Craig DC-0444 Davies Craig Digital Thermatic Fan Switch Kits | Summit Racing). I know this seems like I'm throwing money at the problem, but while the new side deflectors alone will probably help, I'm tired of being worried about being stuck in traffic. Motor is a fresh 302 with GT-40P heads, Lunati cam, intake/injector upgrade, 12 degrees BTDC, stock EEC and an AOD. Cooling system is all new and clean. My daily Camry can take it with the A/C on, so my mustang should be able to do the same.
So I bought all of the above and am in the process of wiring everything up. Two questions for those of you that have been here before:
1. My DC-0444 Fan Controller Kit says to splice the Yellow "Ignition" wire to a positive ignition or accessories source. What source did you splice into and where physically?
2. The Green wire goes to the "Air Conditioner" and acts as a manual override. Same question as above, but do I want the fans to kick on whenever the A/C is on, such as running down the highway? Seems like I'm using up fan life having them run 100% when the A/C is on. Won't the temp sensor kick on the fans when the motor gets above the preset fan on trigger point?

Where do you get the brushless spal fans?

The car will run warmer with the hood on 100%.

The dual fans were sourced through Ron Davis Radiators in Glendale AZ (Performance Aluminum Radiators and Custom Aluminum Radiators). The dual fans won't work with a blower pulley, but they also have single 17" fans that will. I have one of those also. Another sure bet for the blower crowd is a setup sold by DeWitts Radiator (Dewitts Radiator new Universal Brushless Fan Shroud). This will give you the space needed for the blower pulley.
