No engine builder is going to pay to remove/ install engine when he was not involved or paid to do it. I think it was nice of him to drive to your house to fix it (try) there. No one around my house would do that for sure.

It's to bad that you still have the leak. Again actually where is the leak coming from.

What brand oil pan is that?

It is what it is, at then end of the day I know what is going to happen. I am going to chase the leak, pull it all apart and find where it is coming from and at that point engine builder will say well it can't be that because I already fixed that or whatever and judging from the communication I have gotten since the first leak and responsiveness it won't go well. Like I said, I am not sure what could happen, what should happen blah blah, I was just curious what other people think or have experienced.

Maybe the moral of the story is, when you pay someone to do something take some time and have a serious discussion about the things that "may" happen and how they would resolve them. What is their responsibility or what falls under the category of "not much we can do".

Like I said, when I shell out that much money for something I expect it to be perfect. Not much more I can say here so take it for what it is worth and question/set expectations before you commit to anything.....
You didn't even look for the leak yet, but you know what the builder is going to say?

Find the leak and contact him.

Unfortunately he is not going to fix it when you moved 1200 miles away.

First off, no the engine should not leak.

Second you keep saying you spent 12k(ish) on the engine. Add up the price in the parts alone: dart block(plus all the machining involved- which is a lot), crank, rods, pistons, rings. heads, intake, cam, pushrods, oil pan, oil pump plus all the associated hardware. It adds up fast for quality parts. You act like the builder made 12k on you. Not even a fraction of that.

With that said, it doesn't excuse the leak.

You came here looking for everyone to burn down the builders building. It seems it didn't work out that way.

You keep repeating yourself, and just about everyone is giving you other opinions, and you can not accept it.

Carry on. Let's see how long you are going to complain about the builder before you find where the leak is actually coming from. The builder is not going to be able to tell you where it's leaking over the phone. He definitely not going to pay someone to fix it in the car. That was never part of deal, like it or not.

I still do not think it is much to expect no leaks....

I think I may call around to real engine builders tomorrow, just ask this question. You build me an engine, should I expect a possible leak. Only way to settle this IMHO.
Great idea. Waste a bunch of builders time on the phone with an issue which is not theirs instead of getting under the car to see where the leak is coming from. 👍

So Woody built your short block, assembled the long block with parts you bought some where else, drove an hour each way to address a leak on a Saturday, didn’t charge for the “warranty” work. And you’re up in arms that he isn’t doing anything else since you haven’t found the leak?
Wouldn't you be upset if Jim couldn't tell you where it was leaking over the phone over numerous phone calls? 😌
