I rebuilt my 4.6 4V and had the same type of leak as you described. It ended up being a pinched rear main seal gasket which I swore I put in correct. A new seal and all was good. I was told by a veteran Ford master mechanic to use a genuine Ford gasket as others were prone to leak. Which I did use. Once it was Properly installed, no leaks since.

i was so worried about that i bought the special seal install tool
