Well, my friend and I made a trip to the junkyard today and we each picked up an electric fan off of a Ford Thunderbird, and I got a 130 amp 3g alternator from a 94/95 V6 Mustang. We got a good deal ($100 for everything).

Anyways, I am going to wire my fan to an ashtray switch panel. Do I need a relay if I will be controlling the fan manually?

How much fabricating is involved with a Thunderbird fan? It looks like about the same dimensions as the stock fan shroud.

Also, if you have any other tips on the alternator and fan install please tell me.

Thanks, Brad.

Yes, always use a relay when wiring an electric fan.

Also, you can wire it to come on automatically, or manually, or both.
