EEC-V for 302W

I want to upgrade the ecu in my 94 GT. Currently running a T4M0 with quarterhorse with a Cobra tune. It seems with the right wiring and tuning can run a newer EEC-V ecu, which would give me OBD-2 and EDIS (or even COP?). I've started gather parts, cam sync and crank sensor from explorer. What EEC-V ecu would you recommend? It seems like ones running CDAN4 (96-97) would work, anything better?

Decipha recommended an 01-03 f150 5.4 wiring harness as the easiest to work with on a SBF, and the 03/04 PCM's from any sedan, the Marauder, CV, TC, and MGM.
Thanks. I wasn't able to make it to the junkyard this weekend. But I think there is a f150 5.4l listed. I'll have to go check it out. That's good about to use multiple vehicles for the ECU

There is no HP limit on the TermX. The limit will be your hardware/ignition.

I'd just keep what you have and call it good or go straight to TermX or Pro-M if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket.
I don't have the money right now which is why I'm trying to go junkyard parts.

I have researched the big three, holley, megasquirt, and Pro-M. I was originally Pro-M but have switched to megasquirt from Stinger. But having done more research on the Ford ecus, that's now where I'm leaning. I think I will get everything I want from that setup (OBD2 and upgraded ignition). If it can do 2step I would be golden. I have just a simple sbf with HCI and T5.

Keep us posted. I want that to work out well, my 92 Mark VII I might still be a while before I get to it.

I already bought harnesses from a 2002 Mustang for the whole car. The Lincoln's have far more wires in them than the Fox Mustangs, plus the older system with random relays spread throughout, and none swap. The 94+ Mustangs have the next wiring system, the two possible relays swap anywhere among them, and they are located together. I want the better wiring, the OBDII, and the ability to add a GEM module for some extra functions. The engine wiring I'm going to mesh with an Explorer engine harness, and place the PCM and connectors like they go in a Mustang. I could still use a different PCM and COP parts if that is feasible.
This past weekend I grabbed the engine harness from a 2002 F150 and an ECU from a 2004 Grand Marquis.

What are people using for coils for coil near plug setups? The Ford mod engines use coil on plug and LS coils can't be used with the Ford ECU. Something that can be mounted on the valve cover with a short extension would be ideal.

I know this is old but going to respond anyways. The T4M0 and any 94/95 ECU has data in/out on it. So if you want to datalog you absolutely can. Look up ForDiag, the guy who makes it is awesome. Yes he is overseas in the EU but his english is great and the hardware is awesome. I only use this product to datalog cars that I need to work on and get live data for all the sensors at once (like the old Snapon Tool) but this is at a reasonable price. I have an adapter board that goes between the ECU and Computer Harness to break out those pins into an OBD2 port. Again I use to troubleshoot customers cars, for you, you could run those pins into the connector near the ECU where the v6 would have originally ran it's OBD2 connections to the OBD2 connector under the dash, and move the pins to the correct location on your OBD2 port and there you go. I have this done on my personal cars.

Food for thought and FYI, in 2002-2005 I moved to EDIS/EEC-V on my 408W build. Data should be on this forum somewhere still.

I didn't see your reply till now. Motorcraft 2v cop coils with ls plug wires are what you should use
CBAZA have a live data stream, it's just OBD-1. The Ford NGS have it as do some aftermarket scan tools. If you're doing any tuning I'd recommend a twEECer or QuarterHorse as they allow both tuning and have datalogging.

Dwain, have you used that combination? I got some 98-02 Camaro LS1 plug wires and the coil end doesn't fit over the spade terminal in the coil.
I think you asked me the same question on the other board. I have the same experience as you. Im wondering if the actual Motorcraft coils have a different connection. I never got clarification from Decipha.
Oh didn't realize same person. My bad. Yea not as easy as we once thought.

I havent been to the junk yard in a while so I havent had time to check one at the yard. Ill let you know if I find something.
Well, you can make just about any ecu work for you if your willing to do a little work.

I'm running a Ford AU 5.0l with 2 banks of 4 throttle bodies from a BMW 1200 bike , a Ford EL dizzy(hall effect) and Holden VN harness and Delco808 computer tuned to the Windsor.

So the answer to the coils... OEM 2v coils have the correct connection for the ls plug wires but aftermarket don't from what i can tell. I ended up buying coils for a 7.3 Godzilla engine. I can 100% confirm they have the correct plug wire connection.

The one advantage that the late EECs have over the earlier units is that in 2003+ they support CAN bus. CAN bus opens up a whole world of customization possibilities, but the main thing I was looking at it for was the ability to query the EEC for a specific parameter over the CAN OBD2 interface, say coolant temperature and drive a PWM control for electric water pump, e-fan, etc.
It's officially a 302W 5.0L can run using a Crown Vic EEC-V with Godzilla coils! I still need to get it properly tuned but it is possible and it does work.

I have started a build thread here on Corral where I'll add details as well as on my YouTube channel.

The coils work great when you wire them correctly :ROFLMAO:

Did you shop for any brackets to mount the coils? I also plan to buy the 7.3 coil and plug set, for my 347. I'd like to mount them with the valve cover bolts instead of welding on the VC's. I have some FMS covers that were used on a crate engine so they have old style holes, I'll have to weld on them to fill one hole and add a filler tube to one side.

I wonder if there is a bracket made for those coils, and can mount to the side of the VC's?

There is a bracket set to mount them. I came across them a week ago or so. I ended up mounting them directly to the valve covers. My uncle machined me some standoffs to mount them to the valve covers. I'm not sure what Rinner used. Below is a picture of what I did.

I designed and built my own brackets that bolt using standoff from the valve cover studs. With my setup I have to use lower valve covers such as the Trick Flow and an intake spacer since I have stock style upper. While I would have preferred to weld bolt pads on like Dwain, I couldn't bring myself to grind on brand new valve covers
