Hey, is the dogbone that big piece of metal in front of the rear differential? I always wondered if I could take that thing off without any consequences. It's just unsprung weight to me.

It is there to attenuate the natural frequency vibrations of the factory driveline. If you have non-stock gears in the back you may be able to ditch it without noticing anything.

But...

Go ahead and take it off (if you have aftermarket gears). But don't immediately throw it in the trash. Try it first and then decide.

One friend has put his back-on because of some vibrations he was getting without it....

10lbs here and there and it starts to add-up.
