I wanna perform a compression test on my engine out of curiosity and I was looking at my Chiltons manual and it says you have to crank the engine with out turning on the ignition..... Can somebody give me some detailed instructions how I can perform this?

Thanks

Best way is to buy a remote starter switch. They cost about $8.00 at Autozone. You'll hook it up to the starter.

Thanks Guys. Now what kind of numbers should I be expecting from a 78k mile shortblock that has been beaten up pretty well?

Your other option is for instance pulling the fuse for the injectors. I'd say you'd be looking at 140-160 psi.
