i have a 97 GT auto. i just changed the tranny fluid and im having trouble checking the level during cold temp. whenever i pull the dipstick out, wipe, re-seat, and pull out again, the dipstick seems saturated to the top although the manual says its supposed to be only half way up the dipstick (the C mark). the problem existed before the fluid change. what am i doing wrong? should i let the car idle and check it? or check it during the ignition off?

after driving for the day, the hot temp level seems fine.

Check your user's manual, there should be a description of proper procedure for checking cold ATF level (like car running, moving shifter through all gears...)
But if your hot level is fine there is no any need to check it cold.
