I am just curious what year block my buddy has in his '82 mustang. He says it is not the original cause and also doesn't know what year it is. Here is the number off the block:

C90E-6015-C

Someone told me it is a 78-79 block but he is not positive that it is.

C9=1969

The first letter in Ford part #'s, stands for a year.

A=1940's
B=1950's
C=1960's
D=1970's
E=1980's
F=1990's

Just FYI, C9OE-6015-C is not a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), it's a Service Part Number.

Service Part Number deciphering

The Service Part Number Prefix in this case does indicate the block was released for service in 1969 but that does not necessarily mean that's when the block in question was actually manufactured. The Date Code tag will indicate when the block was actually manufactured. It looks like an oval tag attached with screws and will be above or below the Service Part Number.

Date Code deciphering

The year in the Date Code may be the same as year in the Service Part Number but they are two separate entities.
