Have been absent from the forums for the last few years, and am now looking to obtain another FOX bodied Mustang. Interested in what you PA guys are doing to help with emissions testing. My county does require it, however I do have family in counties that do not.

Questions?...

Can I "change my address" by listing the family members address at the time I purchase a car and register it?

Anyone have their "daily driver" tagged classic and yet still drive it often?

I understand that buying an out of state car and titling it in PA would require an emissions test the first time. Subsequent years would be exempt.

Depending on the car purchased, I would eventually be running with no smog pump/lines/cats, so really looking for ideas from others to see what the pros and cons of each are in order to avoid the emissions testing for my particular county.

THANKS

Im pretty sure that the whole address thing is illegal, but im no attorney.

True if you bring a car in from out of state it must be PA inspected and Emissioned (if the county requires it). If you purchase a car that is already in PA when its due for PASI & EMIS it must pass the emissions (no exemption if you owned it less than a year). If you want to remain emissions exempt in subsequent years you have to keep the mileage under 5K per year and the car cannot be reinspected less than 1 year from the date of last inspection. Or ya can find a "friend" mechanic who will do the visual inspection on the emissions crap and say "Yep PENNDOT, it was all there." If you purchase an OBDII car, it must be plugged into the states computer for the emissions, you're ####ed there though.

As far as running a classic/antique tag on a DD or 3-4 time a week car, its up to you. As far as I know for the classic tag the car must be pass the PASI every year, but there is no emissions check on those. You are limited to 10K per year I believe but I may be wrong. Now if the car is tagged as antique, then there is a permanant registration issued with the tag and the car does not have to pass any type of inspection or emissions check.

If the car currently has all the smog equipment on it, just get it inspected before you make any mods. After the intial inspection, just keep it under 5,000 miles per year and you will be emissions exempt.

My county has emissions testing also. I have no smog pump or AIR Injection lines. I do have the cats on it though.

I have regular normal tags on it but I have always kept the mileage under 5,000 per year so that I remain emissions exempt.

If you plan on removing the smog equipment and running over 5,000 miles per year, you need to find a "friendly" garage
