I have a 95 GT and just did the following upgrades.
I installed a FRPP Wide Ratio Gear set making is basically a 4R70W.
- Precision Industries Stallion 2400 Stall Convertor
- FRPP Gear Set
- PA Hardened Input Shaft
- Level 10 Automatics Hi-Flow Pump
- Karl Baumann Valve Body Shift Kit
- B&M Deeper Pan (holds an extra 3 qts.)
- Long Trans Cooler
Here is my situation....I am bouncing back and forth on what rear gears I want. Most people jump to say 4.10's cause it is an Automatic.
One of my friends with a AOD and the FRPP Wide Ratio Gear Set said this in an Email "3.73's is as high was i would with my AOD. I'm running out of gear as it is at the end of the 1/4 mile crossing at redline in 3rd at 100-101MPH. If i had 4.10's i would need to shift to OD."
3.73's or 4.10's? This will be a daily driver....I have a 92 LX with a 5 speed and 3.73's and at about 70mph I am at about 2400 RPM.
According to Karl Baumann with the stock rer 3.27's the car has now and combined with the FRPP Wide Ratio Gear Set - first is about a 3.87 Gear.
What so I do guys? I don't wanna run outta gear in the 1/4. Am I going to run out with 4.10's?
Also, how hard is it to swap the speedo gear on an Automatic? Do I use a 23 Tooth for 4.10's? What do I use?
