I've been a anderson ford motorsport PMS user for almost 4 years now. I have loved it, and never had any problems with it, but I'm ready for a change. Maybe just looking to learn something new. from what i've been reading this AEM EMS is supposed to be all that. I'm considering any stand alone that people would recommend. I'm not trying to find something extrememly difficult to use either. I was wondering what people had to say about their experience with this as opposed to another tuning device. What are the Pro's and cons.. how long to hook up, how long to get the car running, driving, and how hard it it actually to just dial in a rough tune? I'm driving a 93 cobra, but i have an A9L computer in it, so i'd assume ijust want the regular version of the EMS? I'm no tuner, but i have tuned myself on my PMS all this time, so i figure i should be fine adapting to the EMS with some tech help from you guys. Thanks in advance for your response.

hm i'll keep that in mind. does anyone have any links where i can read up on this.. like an AEM forum? I'd like to find people with mustangs who run them and are fluent in using them so i have a good idea of what i'm doing before i get started. From what you say i should be pretty happy with the change which is what i'm looking for. my idle has never been like stock or even close. i've always had an obscure idle. my WOT is great, but my pt. throttle really lacks in spots with the pms it seems. How much are these new, and is it better to buy new, or should i get a used one? and where and how much are they?
thanks for your post r. barn, this is exactly the kind of stuff i'm interested in seeing. Do you have any of your install pictured? i'd love to see some further pics if you had them. do you have any videos of your car running? and that tablet pc idea is perfect. something i never would have thought of.. how much are one of those? I might consider something like that instead of my bulky laptop. I'm definately on the waiting list to go speed density, i've never been happy with my mass air meter ever since i went turbo and blow through.
thanks.... so let me ask this. I have a 1993 mustang cobra. I run an A9L computer in it. it's a h/c/i motor 60# injectors, hp stage 1 60 mm turbo kit, 44mm wastegate 3" exhuast all the way back from 3.5. I also run an AIS methanal injection kit with a dual nozzle setup. What all will i need to run this stuff with the AEM. I mean i assume i would need the AEM, then a map sensor of some type... but what else.. can anyone jot me down a quick list of things i need, and or things i would want to look into changing to make the AEM work more efficiently.
why is it better to do this than just to run my factory ignition setup? does the aem have issues using it?
excellent post, thank you very much for your feedback. it's definately appreciated. does anyone have any videos of them tuning or anything?
Just an update... I bought an aem ems, and It should arrive sometime early next week hopefully. I've been reading the users manual and playing with the software to familiarize myself with it... hopefully i'm not totally clueless when i start using this.
how long will it take me to set this thing up for my car to start it and be able to drive and start tuning on it?
Well initially i was planning on purchasing from bob, but I came acrossed a deal that i couldn't pass up and bought it. I asked him how much it would cost me to purchase a baseline calibration, but he explained to me that at this time he is only providing technical assistance to his customers who purchase through him. So I have already exhuasted him as a resource i assume. I do appologize for asking some pointless questions, i'm just eager to get this and start learning.
Bob spends a lot of time on the phone with people while he's trying to tune cars. It's understandable that he would tell you that. He will help you if you go to him for a tune or purchase the product from him. I have heard of people who call him a zillion times and he provides a ton of info and then they buy it somewhere else to save a few dollars, then want his help when the place they bought it from won't or can't help. Paying customers should come first.
Greg, I'm not sure why you felt it was necessary to post this implying that I might not have the mental compacity to understand why a busy man such as bob kurgan wouldn't be able to help me if i didn't purchase through him. I simply posted above what he stated to me, and which i totally understand and agree with. Obviously paying customers take presidence over all others. However i've had countless number of people post up saying get a base calibration from bob kurgan... call bob kurgan.. take your car to bob kurgan. While all those are great ideas, I wanted to post and make clear that due to his current work load, he is only able to help customers going through him so there wasn't any confusion as to why i'm ignoring their advice. I in no way posted that as disrespectful towards bob.

greg, i'm not being hostile either, i'm simply saying that when a person makes a statement like that, it draws posts like the one that follwed yours and can cause my thread to get blown way off topic if you know what i mean. that's all.
welp my AEM EMS arrived yesterday, however since i was at work the post office will be holding it until monday :( I am going to get a USB to serial adapter tomorrow as well so i can use my laptop. i believe the same cable i used to datalog with my pms will work... at least i don't see why it wouldn't. I got it from sears. Does anyone on here live in PA?
also. let me ask this. when someone says base calibration... such as bob kurgan offers, what all does that entail as far as calibrating the AEM? does that just mean they're setting up the system for what your using such as sensors, injectors etc.. or is this a detailed guestimate of what your car should need to get close to running half decent?
thanks bob, i wasn't exactly sure what that meant. I know there were plenty of base tunes for pms users when i used the pms, however those were hit or miss a lot of the times, and i always found it better to just start from scratch and setup my timing numbers i wanted and fuel, then adjust to dial it in.
no horror stories!! i need postive motivation lol... not fear..
i read that as he couldn't figure out how to tune the car... i didn't realize he just wanted to get it started to drive to a tuner. since i have you in my thread now though, i would like to ask your opinion on what sensors # i should run? and what's your thoughts about that EPM modual and coil packs? is not doing the epm swap something i'm going to kick myself in the ass for down the road, and something i should look into doing right away, or am i already overwhelmed and just stick to what i got until i get a handle on using the aem first? I'm just trying to figure out how much of an advantage running that EPM would be. I'm looking to get the best overall streetability out of this car.
Thanks a lot for your information guys. I really appreciate it. I suppose I will just see how things go!
ok well i got the AEM today. Now i'm curious how i should start out after i get everything ready to start... do i just use the base MAP 19lb injector calibration, and change all the injector, and sensor settings then tweek from there or how do i go about figuring out where i need to start all my settings at?
