Im looking at a Chrome Yellow 98 Cobra with 13,500 miles on it. Bone stock (New K&N). Has knock off Chrome R's with 10.5's ad 315's on the rear. I looked at it at tonight and it looked flawless. It also has an S-351 wing (which will be taken off). I wll go back and look at it during the day and take it for a spin. He is asking $18,500 and will go buy a 1 year bumper to bumper warrenty from Ford to who ever buys it.

He teaches automotive at a local high school and when I reved on it he flipped out cause it had not bee running long enough. He literally thretend to Kick my a$$ if I did it again. Well things calmed down and we got to talking civilized again. He said the oil was not warmed up and he didnt want the bearing to get starved of oil.

My buddy made a good point about him being anal on it being reved. The guy new his stuff. His and his sons car is in the new 5.0 magazine. Its the white 5.0 Cobra with the charger on it. After all that being said what do you all think?

BTW the VIN is 1FAFP47V7WF127094 if anyone wants to run a Carfax or look up the build number online. I forgot where to find that out. I know you can though.

That's probably a good price-esp.w/the warranty. You could offer $17-17.5 & see what he says. Double check the paint on the hood as I heard back in '98 the yellow paint got into some "hairline" cracking. Also ask him if he had problems w/the tranny popping out of 3rd gear on decelleration -such as when getting off offramps. I got mine replaced under warranty . I don't think you will get screwed as long as there was no wrecks in the carfax damage. Does he have records??

Well I just did a Carfax and apparently this car has been in a wreck and airbag deployed. I said it hit a stationary object. It had a salvage/rebuilt title issued at 13,496 miles on 3/02/2001. It now has like 15,536 (approx.). It had a Title issued on 4/20/2002. So NOW what do you all think? Should I have the frame checked out? Should I just move on? I dont really care either way. Its just a car. I know now im going to have it checked over really good by a mechanic. If he refuses then Ill walk. Glad I did the Carfax. Best $15 I have ever spent.

walk away from it. even though it might looks and drive fine, there's just something about a salvaged car. keep searching for the right one. i was lucky enough to find a 97 rio red cobra with 9,500 miles perfect in and out with basic mods for $18k.

Paul, man I would go back and check it out. Just for kicks, tell the guy you know what really happened to the car and that your quite disapointed in him since he wasn't straight with you up front. I guess we now know why he only put 23 miles on it in the last year. At best I would give him $16K if everything is perfect. Check under the hood for any overspray and take a fine metric ruler with you and measure all the seams. Take Roger with you and see if he can pick anything out, like he did with my car. :D If nothing else he will be able to spot a few things that maybe you over looked. Well I'm off to St. Louis, see ya when we get back. Good Luck.

$16k for a salvage titled car? No way, the value (regardless of how it looks) is about 50 to 60 percent of a clean titles car. The seller is bs about the extended warranty, won't get one of those on a salvage titled car.

Walk away from this pos.

It sounded great before I read the Carfax. But why would you trade in your Cobra (presumably unwrecked) for one that was wrecked. If this guy was so good at taking car of his car, he wouldn't of rammed it into something. If the guy is willing to kick your ass just for revving it, then he's the type who thinks he can get away with things, such as passing off a wrecked car as if it's never been totaled. I can't believe he didn't tell you. I wonder what he would have said if you asked. I'd walk. Too many good cars out there for that price.

I'd offer him $8000 for it...Salvage cars are just not a good thing to buy, you never know what problems you'll have with them down the road...

I went through 2 fiascos with Cobras before bought mine where the seller didn't tell me it was salvaged...One was a 98 Atlantic Blue, and one was a 96 Black/black...both told me the titles were clean...low and behold what carfax told me about them...I offered each half of what they were selling them for ($8000 and $6500) they laughed and I said, well, you'll get some sucker out there to buy them from you...and they did, cause I've seen both cars driving around town since I've gotten mine...Don't do it even though it might look like a good car...there are plenty of them out there...Isn't it a law that the seller has to tell you that it's a salvage car anyways?? I think it is....I hate liars

Have some fun with him only in a subtle way:evil:

No need to be a **** or cause a scene, just go look at it again and drive it. Then just casually ask him if it's ever been wrecked? See what he says..........Then inquire about a clean title. See what he says.........He will either lie or be straight with you and offer to cut the price. If he's lied to you just casually pull out the Carfax report and show it to him. He'll either own up, lie or try to say the report is BS. Either way DON'T BUY IT! I suspect after being shocked out of his shoes if he lied to you he will cut the price and be honest about the car to the next buyer! That's what I'd do:)

seeing the carfax I wouldn't buy it either. I would ask him if it had been wrecked to see if he is being honest.

Repeat after me, "Just say no."

My very first Mustang had been totalled in an earlier life. It was one headache after another, believe me. Even if it was fixed well, a hit like that loosens everything up, and it's never the same.

Thanks for the replys guys. Im not going to buy it. Im not even going to call him back. He was really a jerk really quick and that really tells me his character. Im going to keep looking. Thanks again.

BTW

The guy who was with me is a bronze medalist in the Olympics in Kickboxing. That guy would have gotten the raw end of THAT deal.

Hey I live in Indy I think I know what car you're talking about. Was it at a dealership in the past couple of months? Black top?? If so look in the passenger side rear inner fender, you can see yellow over spray, ask him how that got there.
