I just installed a Vortech on my 93 Cobra and it has caused the front to ride bad. Are the Cobra springs soft in the front or are my springs wore out? The car has always had a slight rake to the front which I thought was odd. I was going to use a set of 2000 gt springs I had for right now. Any input would be great.
Thanks Mike

I do believe the Cobra springs were a little softer but I wouldn't think they'd be worn out. I bet the struts have seen better days though and if they're bad the car will ride like ****.

Just for reference, here are the factory coil spring rates in lbs./in.

Front coil springs:
'79 V8 - 395
'79 TRX - 425
'80-'81 V8 - 370
'80-'81 TRX - 390
'82 V8 & Handling suspension - 395
'82 TRX - 410
'83-early '84 V8 & Handling suspension & TRX - 410
early '84-'86 Handling suspension & V8 - 425-525
'87-'93 V8 (exc. Cobra "R") - 425-530
'93 Cobra "R" - 750-850

Rear coil springs:
'79-early '84 V8 & Handling suspension & '93 Cobra - 160
'79-early '84 TRX - 175
early '84-'93 Handling suspension & V8 (exc. Cobra and Cobra "R") - 200-300
'93 Cobra "R" - 240-260

*"Handling suspension" was a package that was standard with '82-'84 V8 (exc. when TRX package was optioned) and optional with all other '82-'84 models (exc. when TRX package was optioned).

It could have the wrong springs. It definitely saggs or rakes to the front. The struts shouldn't hold the car up,they should only control the ride, correct?

Also does anybody know the spring rate for the 2000 GT?

Thanks Mike

In a nutshell, the front springs on the 93 Cobra were the same as the rest of the 5.0L cars (425-530 lb/in variable). The rear springs come off the 4 cylinder model and are constant rate (not variable). They are rated at 160 lb/in.

Looks like it's going to be the struts. I was putting the spring in and I compressed the strut and it still has not expanded back out. I even installed it in the top and pulled on it. I guess I'll chaulk that up to another lesson learned.
Thanks Mike
