Im planning a V-8 conversion in my 84 stang.

I have read that there are problems getting the factory gauges to work- is this true?? and people told me to convert the dash over to autometer guages...

I would like to see pics of autometer guages in factory location-

also how bad was it to hook them up- any hints/tricks...

any help would be great-

thanks much

Well, this is sort of the factory location, right?

That's what's in Mike's 79 Capri.

As long as you have factory sending units going to factory gages they should work (as well as factory ones do, that is). Your main concern is going to be the speedometer, which should be fine as long as you have the correct speedo gears for your application, and your tach which has a little 4-6-8 switch underneath it where you could alter the setting of the tach for a V8 application.

That's Mike's Capri, and as stated in the link, he did the work. He's a CNC machinist among other things. :)

I'm going to have him make one up for me one of these days, but it's going to be a little different and of my own design, but very similar to his.

From my experience(I have eleven '79-'86 clusters right now) the only tachometer that has a 4-6-8 cylinder selector switch(along with the appropriate resistors on the printed circuit board) is the 6000 RPM model(w/o a yellow/redline). The 7000 and 8000 RPM tachometers have no switch(or resistors for the other cylinders). Just something to watch out for.

Those are 5" tach and speedometer, and 2 5/8" gauges, correct? I was wondering how 2 1/16" and 3 3/8" gauges would work out.

Has anyone acutally put them in the stock dash plate?
