EDIT: Car is for street and will be driven regularly, it may see the drag strip once or twice over the summer but is not being built for the strip

I know every little thing related to 347s has been beaten to death on these forums already...but ive got more!

Im looking to start building my 347, picked up a complete 302 last week and will strip it down next weekend and send it on its way to the shop.

Now im looking at two places, CHP and ADperformance, i have heard great things about both companies.

(also to get this out of the way, im not going to be buying a pre-assembled short block block because i would like to build my own engine--yes aware it doesnt make sense when woody and people like him have a million times more experience and knowledge but im looking to learn something)

I will be using a stock 302 roller block, and it will be going into a street car. To start off i just want to build a solid 347 that i will progressively upgrade in the H/C/I departments. After all mods are done im not expecting anything over ~425hp.

I would appreciate some input on making an informed decision between the kit that CHP offers and the kit that is offered by ADperformance. Each kit is with FLAT TOP Pistons.

CHP: The Street Fighter Engine Kits are engineered for high performance street and limited race applications. Cast Steel crankshafts, forged connecting rods and lightweight Probe SRS forged pistons are the norm. The Street Fighter is comfortable when used with power adders, and 500+ horsepower is common.

Street Fighter Inlcude:

* Probe SRS Forged Pistons
* Probe Cast Steel Crankshaft
* Probe Machined Beam Forged Rods
* Moly Rings
* CL77 Bearings

THIS ALSO INCLUDES A FREE 28oz balance(Big benefit to me as the shop i go to charge 275 minimum)

price is $959.99 plus $40 shipped to my door

ADperforamce: Scat Street/Strip Rotating Assembly!

Scat Series 9000 Crankshaft, 3.40" Stroke
Scat 4340 5.400 I-beam Connecting Rods, w/ ARP hardware ***5.325" Rods available as an option ($75 charge) This makes a "short rod" 347***
KB Forged or Probe Forged Flat Top Pistons, Inline valve relief, Floating pin w/ spirlox, wrist pins
Clevite Rod and Main Bearings
File Fit Moly Ring (Manufactures Choice - Perfect Circle, Total Seal, Mahle)
This kit will support 600hp from your small block Ford!

This kit does not include the balancing, it is $899.99 and for an additional $85 i can upgrade the rod bolts(little confused here because the ad sounds like the already have ARP hardware???) and the shipping is approximately $90 to my door.

I dont want to be cutting corners on parts that will cost me in the long run, but i dont need big horsepower parts, if i can save a hundred bucks on something that is unnecessary and get something adequate then im just as happy you know?

I've tried to supply as much info as possible and is needed for people to give input, thanks for taking the time to look and help out.

1300 for that kit and the machine work is making me feel awfully stupid not to buy one of your DIY liberator short blocks.......

I know you strongly suggest scat components but do i need them for my application? Do you suspect i would see problems with the probe kit?

I would definately consider buying one of Woody's DIY stroker kits if you want to get your hands in the mix of the build.

By the time you buy the kit and then pay your local machine shop to do all the block work you will be money ahead by just getting Woody's DIY kits.

Good luck with your project!

I've worked with both. Both companies were great to work with. Brian was excellent and I went to him for replacement rods/pistons when the original stuff in my 347 let go because of lack of fuel (100% my fault)

Brian offered probe pistons in 14.2 cc dish and 21 cc dish. I got the bigger dished ones for the rebuild since I use boost now.

I currently have Probe SRS pistons, 4340 I-beam light weight forged rods, and the scat crank that came in my original 347 CHP kit. I've been extremely happy with the crank's performance with all the nitrous, boost, and hard driving I've thrown at it. The crank has seen over 40k of aggressive 1/4 mile, auto-x, road race, and street miles.

I ordered a 347 kit from CHP, while I am yet to receive it I have had contact with CHP twice on the phone. Once before I ordered, and once after I ordered. Both times the owner of the company was on the other end of the phone! And he couldn't have been any nicer, and also was very helpful guiding me through their website to make sure I was getting what I needed. These day's when customer service is a thing of the past, I find it hard to vote against CHP! Oh yeah, the deal with free balancing is pretty hard to beat, saving you money and time at the machine shop.

87fiveptoh.. I have never bought from CHP but my friends have they have bought several kits ranging from 347-418s... Every single one was perfect. I have put together the 347 and its still running strong from several years of racing and street driving. Here in a few weeks i plan on building my 408 combo and im going CHP. I could go DSS or some other direction but there is no question CHP will take care of my needs at a GREAT PRICE and service. I plan on showing what a CHP 408 kit can do in the right hands lol mine will be a 9sec street car ALL MOTOR. Stay tuned lol but dont take my word for it let my video this summer and time slip speak for it self. I run 10s with DSS stuff imangine what i would or could run with a CHP..probally be 10.70s but who knows. Good luck on your choice but i say CHP.
