Hey, so I'm in the middle of a project track car, and I am going to be using a 302 out of a 96 Explorer. I Have all that i need expect a transmission. I looking at buying a t45 out of a 97 cobra mustang, and was wondering if it would bolt to the engine. Ive look on a lot of different place's and the only info I found is about bolting it in the car. Since my project car isn't even domestic, all I need is what needs to be done to mate this trans to a 302. If I can find a t5 for a good deal I will just get that, then delete this post.

You can get a great deal on a T5, just use one out of the newer V6 cars, I think up to 2004. When they increased the V6 output they used the same T5 with the 300lb ft rating in the V6 cars. After 04 it went to a shifter that is behind the trans. Not real sure on the years but I think 99-04 is what you need. You will need the 94-95 bellhousing as the input shaft is longer than the earlier cars. You can get those v6 T5s for like $100

I grabbed one out of a 99 V6 mustang and switch the input shaft and the tail shaft housing then I was back in business. Now I am missing the speedo capabilities but I could have made that work if I took the time to drill a slot into tail shaft to mount the speedo gear drive. I'm not concern about it because I can use my GPS to monitor the speed. I will tell you that the Transmission mounting point on the newer T5s are not in the same location as the older ones which is why I switch the tail shaft.
