I'm currently looking at Nitto 275/40R-17 Drag radials for my Cobra. I'd like to mount them on 17x8.5" rims, but I'm not sure if this is too narrow a rim.
I tried to contact Nitto over the last month, but they don't seem to answer E-mails & I can't find any kind of phone number.

My other consideration was 2000 Cobra R 18x9.5" rims with Nitto Extreme 285/35R-18's. The 18" Nitto Extreme's wouldn't be as sticky as the 275 Drag Radials mentioned above though.

Any suggestions???

They should fit on an 8.5 inch wheel with no problems. If your main concern is traction I would not go with the 18s. Is Nitto making the 285/35/18 yet??

The 2000 Rs would look nice on your car though........

To the best of my knowledge there is no 285/35R-18 Drag Radial yet... They ARE making the Nitto Extremes in 285/35ZR-18 though.

The 275X40X17 Nitto DR would be a nice fit on a 17X8.5" wheel. Who makes that size?
I currently have some 285X35X18 Nitto 555's on 18X10 wheel. It is a nice tire, etc, but traction is about what you would expect from a 300 treadwear tire on 35 series tire. (IE not very good)

Performance Wheel Outlet makes sells the 2000 Cobra R knock-offs in that size. Check them out HERE . They are called "270 Y2K Cobra R".

I would just go all out and buy the 18" rim with the 312/35/18 tire. It would really fill out the fender in the rear and your talking massive traction. Yokahama makes a drag radial called the A032R. It's a really good tire. Just a suggestion. If you wanna see the tread pattern on the Yokohama go to
