This is my first post here so let me know if I did something wrong

Alright guys 93 cobra has a new

Sve 130 amp alternator

4 gauge wire

The front headlight harness is brand new as well.

When hooking up the new alternator I tried connecting up the original black and orange wires along with the new 4 gauge wire to the back of the alternator. When I tried hooking the negative cable back up the battery cable would start smoking and zapping a lot. I removed the 2 black and orange wires and no more zapping but the alternator was not charging the battery at all.

I believe everything is hooked up correctly. With just the 4g wire on I was getting 12vs on the back of the alternator.

The kit does not specify whether to leave the original wires on along with the 4 gauge wire. Does anyone have an idea why the negative cable would be zapping with the original wires connected? Here are some pictures to help explain. ( the black and orange wires are now red because of the headlight harness)

thanks for reading.

Update. So the 2 Black and orange wire are getting 12v when hooked up to the positive terminal of the battery. I am not suoer familiar with these cars but it should be getting 12v when connect to the negitve side correct? Here's a another video

There is no negative side of the solenoid. Look at both ends of the black/orange wires, and how they are connected, then you should be able to understand why you got the meter reading you got. Hint, when using a meter, you must first understand what you should read before you put your leads on the circuit, then when you do you will know if there is issue. What wiring diagram are you using?

Alright guys problem is fixed turned out there was a wire that wad suppose to go the starter solenoid but was instead grounded to the fender 🤦‍♂️. Anyways I'm sure more problems will occur but for now it's charging like a dream. Thanks for the responses
