Managed to get over to the shop this past weekend and work on sound deadening the interior. I realized that I am also missing some of the original hardware for bolting everything back together, that is what happens when you move multiple times and the car sits so long. Luckily LMR has hardware kits for the dash and interior screw kits as well. I managed to get the floor pan done, except for the hatch area as I ran out of material. So new order has been placed and should be here this week. This coming weekend I will work on finishing up all of the sound deadening and try to remember to get some pics of the progress made.

I also placed my order for the AudioFrog component speakers this weekend and found another amplifier (RF 25 to Life Punch 75) that I plan to use to run the door mounted 6" speakers. All of that equipment should here in the next week or so, but I'm not in a huge hurry.

lastly I need to research what to do with the battery. Originally I was going to move it to the hatch as I really hate having it in the engine bay, especially now that everything has been smoothed up and painted. I'm leaning towards coming up with a Lithium Ion battery and building a custom bracket to mount it inside the fender well. Like I said more research to be done on htis.

My new T&D shift rockers finally made it in today. Now all I need to complete the engine is the lower intake and a 2nd throttle body.

Made more progress this weekend on the interior and managed to finish sound deadening the rear hatch area. All that is left now is to deaden the doors, i should be able to get that done later this next week.

I also managed to a get a few pics of the car outside, it was a little overcast but the paint really shines.

Too many projects at home this past weekend so I did not make any progress on the car.

I did order, and receive, my new lithium antigravity battery. I have to say this thing is way impressive. 1500CCA and only 15lbs, plus it has a built in reserve and remote monitoring capability....with an add-on module.

I am following this for sure as my phone is going to die any second and will check it out some more. That color blue is absolutely stunning and would love a paintjob this nice someday but hesitant as I will be racing but still very nice. It looks like someone has gone to hell and back with their build for just as long as I did so I feel your pain. The reward will be so worth it. I will chime in tomorrow instead of working as this is better and much appreciated. I posted my first thread somewhere near yours with a pic or two but good job. You will be smiling ear to ear in no time. Catcha later =)

Thanks man. This has definitely been a long haul project. I would have never thought it would have taken this long, but life happens (divorce/marriage/kid/multiple moves).

I'll definitely checkout your build and follow along.

I finally got around to finishing the center console armrest refinish and rebuild this weekend.

I used a mix of original parts, nos parts and lmr repop parts. I found that skipping the adhesion promoter and just scuffing the parts with scotch bright pad worked much better.

I have to say I'm fairly pleased with the results.

Wow, this project is amazing. I'm actually almost on your exact timeline. I have an 85 hatch that my brother bought new in 85, then sold it to me when after he had kids in 97. I started turning it into a drag car in 98/99 then life got in the way. This year my older son finally looked at in the garage and said when are we going to do something with that car. We're not going for it to the level of your build, but we're having some fun and should end up with a nice street cruiser. Thanks for your build thread, inspirational for sure.

Thanks Mike. A 1985 hatch is a great car to do a build on, I'm envious. My first Mustang was a 1983 GT that was handed down to me from my parents and like an idiot I sold it when I was 20. Best of luck on your build.

FWIW, I have been posting more pics on instagram, you can follow by searching for @mgbollman

Looking good. Will check this out some more when I get a day away from work. I am now dialing in the whole suspension with the help of a MM engineer getting the front/rear weight.
After going through it, we found out my bumpsteer kit is all installed bas akwards so getting it straightened away with correct spring rates as well as swaybar specs. I still need to do my whole interior which will be very last thing and coming back to this thread for sure. I think a cage is the toughest choice out of anything since there are so many options/choices for what you want or need. I have been researching roll cages for so many years, just collecting thoughts and ideas that will pass tech.
Keep up the good work!!

Thank Wile.E.GT. Progress has been slow the last few months on my project, but steady. I did manage to finish all of the sound deadening and picked up a few additional items for the build. I was super excited to snag an original NOS Chicane Motorsports saleen vent gague pod. I had been looking for one of those forever. My metal fab /Paint & Body guy also built a custom battery box to go in the spare tire well.

Good to hear you are still making headway on your project. Do you have any ETA on when it will be "finished"?

On roll cages I hear year. I originally was going to put one in my car, but decided against it as I wanted to be able to put my son in the back seat, he is 5 years old. Plus I don't intend to really race the car. I would seriously consider a chromemoly cage whatever you do as they are considerably lighter.

Nice. I love the lid on that battery box and much better than my Taylor box. I made my own double hole gauge cluster piece that looks exactly like yours. It has the two vents on the side as well and think it is great as it also can keep the gauges cooled down well...before my a/c compressor started smoking on the dyno not being able to hang with 8950 rpm I guess. Hmm sound deadening I put so much research into that as well. I wish I had seen this before hand and could of sent you some free $200 worth of Second Skin Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro.

When I removed my rear seat, cracked trunk board, carpet, side panel trunk pieces and such, it was so loud hearing my exhaust but mainly just the echoing was so bad to the point I couldn't have a conversation with a passenger from not being able to hear eachother. I thought there is no way I could put up with this so i started researching tons about sound deadening wanting the best and not the heaviest.
I put the heavier Luxury Liner Pro in the back seat and trunk area all in one custom cut piece. I do not mind adding weight to the rear for better 50/50 which I am so close to achieving. I also added the damplifier to the same area under the Liner and damplifier under the rear speaker deck lid along with door panels. When I have more time and will figure out how to post pictures.

All of this started when my passenger window died (good thing it died when window was up) and then snowballed out of control from there. The liner is heavy like 1 lb per square foot where as the damplifier is only 1/3 of that or less. It is getting there all new door speakers, replaced thin wire with oxygen free and have a reflector piece behind door speakers sealed tight. This and I made custom pieces out of the blank mach 460 covers cutting a hole for the tweeters. When trunk closes it sound sealed. Now I am installing a top notch little camera in the trunk key hole for mainly the racetrack and not just as a backup camera but to see who is approaching at the track. Has a nice clear wide angle and comes on when I want and not just in reverse.

Ok I am being selfish and hijacking your thread.

By the way you know these cars are never finished unless the Mrs is asking.. "so close to being finished honey, just need a few more parts, it's getting there"
as you are now thinking about forced induction plans with a whole new tune and ways to run custom plumbing for your air to water reservoir in the spare tire well. lol

Hey Wile.E all good on the "hijack", haha. I have a combination of different sound deadening materials gathered up over the years. I went with Noico as a base layer, as seen in the pics. My plan is to do as you did and follow that with thicker liner, I'm terribly worried about the weight as the car should have plenty of power.

I'm curious what rear camera setup did you go with? I am going to be using an old school Alpine 7909 head unit, but I am considering putting a camera in place with a backup / rear view mirror.

Nice Saleen gauge cage, I’ve been looking for one for a while lol.
Thanks man. It took forever to find one at a reasonable price, and even then I hesitate to use the word reasonable.
