I have a stock motor with 188,000 miles and I just got a twin turbo set up. Can the motor handle the turbos? I do have a motor to put in but I'm missing a few parts to get it runing. So my question to you do you thing the motor will last the summer? :confused:

Thats total speculation. It depends on to many factors.

What amount of power are you wanting to make? Is the engine built? What fuel system are you running?

The motor is bone stock w/stock fuel system. I do have a cartech stage 2 fuel system and a motor that is built up, but I don't have the money to finish the new motor, it still needs a few odds and ends. I was just wondering if the stock motor (with a 188,000 miles on the ticker) could handle the twin turbos or should I wait till I put the new motor, trany and fuel system in?

My motor has 165,000 miles on it. In the last year I've put almost 40,000 miles on the turbo setup alone. I have next to no blow by. No ticks, knocks or strange sounds. My oil pressure is awesome. I push 12 lbs of boost through it everyday. I'm running nearly 550 hp at the crank. I change the oil regularly and make sure ALL maintanance is tended to. I try to keep a safe tune on it, but that's not always the case.

IMO, it would all depend on the overall condition of the motor and the tune. I've seen low mileage motors break just as easily as high mileage motors.

If it were me, I would run the sh#t out of it.

But that's just me.

And most likely you will blow the motor up. Thats alot of miles on an engine. I had 165 on mine when we did a compression check and decided to change the engine. As long as you dont care about the time to put it on the engine go and blow it up. :D

If you use an old motor, be sure to do a blow-by test first- a simple compression check tells you nothing.

The problem with old motors is that they leak oil into the cylinders from rings and from old valve seals. Oil detonates badly, detonation kills engines.

Stock injectors and fuel pump will not support any forced induction with any large amounts of boost. A Turbo is easier on the motor than a supercharger. Just don't run it lean or it will let go. Your right the worst it will do is crack the block or blow a head casket it might shoot chunks into your oil pan and possibly the turbo it self (that would be bad) but give it a wirl you have another engine waiting!

Now I'm wondering if I want to put the turbos in the car I have now (89 Vert) or do I want to sell this one and get a 94 or 95 Vert? I do have another motor I just don't know if I want to wast my time with the car I have now? It's easier to sell a car with a running motor.:confused:

I have 138000 on mine. I did change the mains they go on 302's. I also studded the mains. I did this with the motor in the car. Although it was difficult it can be done. I also use TF TW heads new out of the box. I also think you need 36 pound injectors at the least and a 255 pump

define blow by test. is this where you take out the oil caps and rev the motor tp see if any smoke comes out ?
